I still feel like people are rating Louis on his technical ability to finish an opponent rather than his transcended ability into different eras. Lets Flip him with some of the other fighters on that list and imagine how easily he finishes fighters on their resume. In turn how easily would that fighter finish similar opponent in Louis's era. I think i would rate Tyson as the best here, rare for me to say, but i think in any given era he had the physical and technical ability to finish most fighters that other fighters on that list could finish and is most cases with more ease
My top 5 are prety much interchangable. Dempsey absolutely belongs, and his destruction of Willard should count in his favour, in this argument!
indeed , and in Louis' case most of times they were either even less than cruiserweights or really low quality cruiserweights .
Mercer was ruthless. Who was the guy hanging through the ropes who was clearly gone, but he took a free shot at anyway? The Morrison finish was pretty sick too. Not sure why Vitali would be on anyone's list, he's not a particularly clinical finisher, never has been.
That might hold true if you are talking about Lewis or Bowe, but I am not sure that guys like Akiniwande, Grant, Gollota etc were better than the big guys Louis was dismanteling.
Lewis is very good, if not the best, at finishing big men in quick fashion but he struggles with some smaller guys.
