What’s happening with Top Rank? A lot of people I.e. YouTubers are saying Teo is greedy and should stick with Top Rank. But what have Top Rank/Bob Arum really done for him. Some of you might say 1. Top Rank gave him the opportunity to be a world champ 2. Helped build his platform and fan base 3. Got him in position and in line to fight Loma for all the LW belts. But my are arguments to those statement are 1 & 2. Isn’t it the promoters job to build the profile of the fight. By getting them the right fights, picking the right date, time and location. Making them marketable to the general public and not just us hardcore boxing fans. If this isn’t the role and responsibility of top rank or any other promoter what is. 3. In terms of Loma, I feel like he was never supposed to win that fight. It was supposed be a fight in which he looked good in, showed his future potential but not win. Teo winning might be best thing that ever happened to him or worst. Look at what happened to mikey Garcia. It shouldn’t be but it might. Someone that’s marketable and exciting to watch shouldn’t be in this position he’s the polar opposite of what Bob Arum complains about Terrance Crawford (the marketability factor) and he still won’t pay Teo. I think deep down Bob Arum is just pissed that Teo won’t rematch Loma, but I don’t blame Teo for not taking the fight. One thing I can guarantee if they where to rematch the judges would definitely lean towards Loma with rounds that are close.
Might had happened. Teo had plan to outbox Loma. Cards ofc were traditional biased **** in US, still I think Lopez won 7 from 12 rounds. Barely. Why? Lopez likes me, he weighted in in limits, did all the best to box clean boxe.
Not completely sure how or what any of this exactly has to do with top rank. I don't know how marketable Teo is, as he's far from a household name. But being marketable takes a lot of time. Years. Even Canelo took a couple of years before he became the bankable star he is. And that was when we still had HBO to showcase fights (BTW, the loss of HBO Boxing has been a HUGE reason boxing popularity is declining). I don't see Top rank not winning the purse bid as lowball, so much as Rally (Was it rally?) overpaying to get their foot in the door w/ real boxing. Fact of the matter is, they may lose money on Lopez' next fight. I'm of the opinion Teo wasn't obligated to rematch Loma. He won fair and square. And he doesn't want to rematch Loma because of his own hurt feelings. However, being he defending champ losing a close fight should warrant a LOOK as a possible rematch. Instead he'll face Kambosos. I can't say I'm familiar w/ George, but his resume has a sole good win in Selby, via split decision. So Lopez v Kambosas is OK, so long as the next fight from Lopez is world level.
Top Rank has everything to do with this if you had a potential, I know potential superstar. Wouldn’t you do everything within your power to keep them. Even if means over paying for one fight. Do you think Arum issues would of happened if it was Hearn or Al Haymon?
It’s not just them tbh PBC is putting on PPVs anytime fighters make $1 million plus because they are being cheap. A bigger problem is Tyson Fury being inactive because they couldn’t afford his contract minimum without a live gate. DAZN eased outta that guaranteed contract with Canelo and now use there own version of the PPV model to supplement income for his fights. If you’re Top Rank it makes perfect sense to not pay Teo $4 million to fight a C+ Level opponent and lose money. Same for Bud unless it’s a name fighter.
Arum pays his fighters fairly. The Kambosos fight wasn't worth $6 million and no one should fault Arum for not paying that much. This is how fighters duck one another. Teo's gonna want $10-$15 million to fight to Tank or Ryan now.
