Live boxing continues to be too insignificant and trivial for the highfalutin terrestrial ESPN television channel. That will instead this evening be offering a sophisticated menu of live college football with a fine palate cleanser of live XFL (minor league professional football).

    + exclusive.

I went to an XFL game last weekend and it was the lowest quality display of sport I have ever seen. Absolutely abysmal.

    Round 1

As I noted when they stood abreast for the presser, the height differential is massive. Wilcox is coming in and jabbing the body of Germain at medium-close range. They entangle a few times. Germain skipping clockwise and flurrying. Neither has landed much cleanly.

10-9 Wilcox, a few more touches as grazed the body with jabs.

Neither is a ferocious puncher - they combine for just 16 kayos in 52 professional bouts. (a paltry rate of 30.7%)

    Round 2

A bit more grappling and more punches being thrown both ways, but still not a lot more being connected. They're both cagey, blocking with either glove and using head movement, each just outside hooking range as they circle and so mostly just lobbing jabs. Wilcox's continue to get through with a slightly higher rate of success, mostly because he drops some onto Germain's body.

    10-9 Wilcox

    20-18 Wilcox

    Round 3

Wilcox is still electing to stand in with the six inches shorter fighter, except his deterrent jab is no longer being respected. Germain walking through it and tapping Wilcox on the cheekbone with his own jab, and launching additional power shots pushing up off either heel. Wilcox's face getting marked up as he takes slow rickety steps on his long spindly legs to back away, throwing a defensive jab.

    10-9 Germain

    29-28 Wilcox

These men have just one common opponent: Christian Fermín Uruzquieta Fragoso. Wilcox took his first career loss against the Mexican in 2013 via SD8, and Germain defeated him five years later via UD10.

    Round 4

Wilcox is standing in front of Germain, legs splayed wide, left arm swinging by his side and sometimes joining his right glove to shield his chin. Germain using feints well, pawing high with a double jab, then ducking in beneath Wilcox's jab and cracking him on the chin with a left hook and/or the nose with a chopping right. Wilcox sort of getting beaten up and embarrassed now, and his corner gives him an earful when he plops on his stool.

    10-9 Germain

    38-38

    Round 5

Wilcox is shuffling laterally and keeping his base very wide, leaning in & down woodenly and stalling Germain's bursts of momentum with a bit of jab-and-grab. Constantly spiraling in and bringing the heat with both hands, Germain is finding either side of Wilcox's jaw with anything he pleases. Wilcox tries getting separation with a big hook but nearly spins himself off balance missing as Germain simply ducks out after scoring a couple.

    10-9 Germain

    48-47 Germain
