I understand why the big names at 118 aren't on that shortlist but I am still somewhat underwhelmed by the names on there.

Gauthier, Mercedes and Mabuza are very poor opponents for a top pound for pound fighter, Alexander Munoz is passed it and lost comfortably to Koki Kameda in his last fight, Christian Esquivel is unproven and inexperienced. I wouldn't mind Narvaez but I would be surprised if he took this fight considering he has made a career out of playing it safe and staying in good old Argentina. Stylistically I think he is too short to cause Donaire any problems and after a couple of rounds Donaire would work him out and go straight through him.

Of those listed above I'm going to be controversial and say that my preferred choice would be Christian Esquivel. Whilst he is unproven, he would represent the biggest opponent Donaire has had to face in a while and he has decent power, so with that in mind that should keep it fairly interesting and competitive. In the long term I would look to see Donaire take on the winner of the Bantamweight Tourney Final but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Me too, two fights with top ten P4Plber. The genuine no.1 at his weight.

Between Vic and Montiel, Nonito did basically **** all. A few decent wins, no doubt, but Montiel is his best opponent.

Great win he's my no.5. But he wouldn't be that high if he didn't look brilliant and hadn't at least been consistent against decent-to-middling opposition.

Jpab, get back to me when he beats the winner of Mares/Agbeko :good

He needs to stop ducking Lucky Sambo.

This is true. Sambo has said he has no problem making the cut from heavy to Bantam, and it's hard not to believe him when he fought at Heavy, then Straw in the space of a month just last year.

Nonito knows he'll suffer a loss at any weight he fights sambo at, as does Sergio :deal

Sambo is the Charley Burley of every era, including Charleys, who also ducked Sambo at Middleweight as we all know.

I'm a huge fan of Donaire he's a top 3-5 P4P fighter imo it all depends on your opinion after Mayweather and PAC

I'd say it's more than justified to say Donaire is ahead of Martinez p4p, even if it's subjective. Destroying two top ten p4pers with brilliant performances in Montiel & Vic compared to Martinez's similar performance vs P-Dub. The Pavlik result was a good win but not in as good a class as those.

Martinez should have had the decisions vs Williams & Cintron obviously but I would put Cintron at light-middle in the same class as Senchenko at bantam and Donaire was ruthless vs him. Plus he has beaten Marquez & Mthalane who have gone on to prove their competence at world level, like a Dzinzuruk type of operator, so I would say on the whole Donaire actually has greater substance in his career and more quality wins.

Vic was years ago, which is why I don't take that into account for the current P4P top ten :good

I agree that the Senchenko, Marquez and Mthalane were good wins, apologies for that, a stoned short-sighted slip:patsch

Don't get me wrong, Nonito is a superb fighter. But Martinez with Pavlik, and P-Dubx2 is very impressive IMO. He was fantastic in the P-Dub fight, even though I scored it to Williams, Martinez gets immense credit.

He basically stopped and decisioned Cintron in the same fight. Clinical either way. As for ruthless, see iron chinned Williams ;-) :good

    Nonito above Marquez?:huh

As for Floyd over Pac, no point debating that, I already know where you stand on Floyd.

Floyd shouldn't even be on there.

Hell, why not put Tommy Hearns on there too!

    1. Pac
    2. JMM
    3. Martinez

    After that it's fair game.

I think JMM is slightly past his best but i'm still a huge fan but i think Donaire is a tremendous boxer and like Mayweather/Pac it's just a personal preference

The point about Vic is fair enough, personally for me I loved the Senchenko & Montiel wins most. I really respect both of them so the way he wiped the floor with them left me :yikes each time!

It's very close between the 2, no arguments about that. In fact, looking at the list I did last week or so I think I actually put Martinez in front at no.3 but I've had a re-think on that.

Either way, Marquez is still definitely above the pair of them imo.

Donaire could probably beat Senchenko (he's not very good) but even then I'd still rate his win over Sydorenko higher :yep
