At the scene, there is an interview with Top Rank Prez Todd DuBeof discussing the Gamboa/Rios dilema. He is quoted stating that the fight agreement for April 14 between both parties was never signed but yet tickets are at the box office and he also stated that currently there is no backup plan as to who would replace Gamboa if he were to decide not to show up on April 14th. These are the reps in charge of major boxing events...Am I the only person irritated by this? I bought tickets to Robert Guerrero vs Maidana and the fight was cancelled. Last year I traveled to LA to watch Mares Vs Agbeko and the fight was cancelled with no replacements. I dont think I am ever going to a major boxing fight ever again I am officially announcing my retirement :hi: **** Promoters!
****ing morons. "Nah, we don't exactly have an agreement in place, but hopefully we can get this thing signed after we've already sold tickets and gone on our press tour." :yep
Is it usual to book a date, venue and promotional tour and start selling tickets for a fight before it's been signed? Seems a little crazy.
Fights are agreed upon first verbally and signatures come well after that... Gamboa verbally agreed to the fight and terms but turned chicken once it settled in what he had sone call out a bigger fighter and when everything was set up... his balls dropped and now he wants out blaming TR. Cowardice is so easy to see especially when you would be making 1+ Million\\.
So it's standard procedure to have tickets sold and a press tour already underway without even having one of the fighters' signature on a ****ing contract? :think
Are we talking just for in-house guys, or is every boxing promoter a ****ing ****** who just assumes they can get everything on paper later? :think
So if Gamboa doesn't like what comes with taking the million bucks he then becomes a coward? Maybe Top Rank is trying to screw him over or lock him into a long term contract. They should have covered all of this **** before selling tickets and doing the press tour.
