Top Rank put Ruiz on the 14-day diet.

    He lost two weeks.

    Is this a joke?

The dude is winning and winning impressively, if hes doing that at his weight (which he is getting lower for the most part) then hes ultimately doing his job. Regardless of how he looks.

Ive never heard of anything like this.

IF this is true, if... then Ruiz needs to get a different promoter.

The last time I saw Ruiz he looked good. He would beat Jennings and Perez fight now. He would beat Wilder, knock him out..................I like the way he fights, he has talent, but is still learning. If you can go the distance and are fat, it does not really matter, he sure doesn't fight fat!!!

Yeah but Top Rank doesn't sign young prospects so that they do "Ok", they sign young prospects to make them stars. He's got the talent and pedigree(extensive amateur background w/ a great trainer guiding him as a youngster) to do really well after Wlad is gone so I completely understand their urgency. He could easily lose 20 lbs of water weight and still be effective, but he's got to change his diet completely to make it happen.

Ruiz coming into shape like that in a fight shows he doesn't care about himself and his safety. People hype him up like they do with Wilder, somebody will eventually press this fatass back and make him huffing for air into the later rounds and will get tagged hard and get knocked out. How any trainer can let a fighter of theirs get into the ring with that shape is a joke, Top Rank is smart because they know that any obese fighter won't be taken seriously by the public.

Ruiz is very talented. I hope he gets it together. But, who cares how fat he is as long as he wins.

Seems a little drastic. Kid is a tremendous talent.
It seems a bit odd that some of these (supposedly) top athletes struggle with the weight to this degree. It shouldn't be an issue for this guy to show up at the right side of, say, 235 for a fight.
This guy is a World champion level talent. Would like to see him fight at about 225. That would be a good weight, and he should be able to do it without too much trouble with the right backing. This guy would be lightning fast at that weight at HW.
There is a huge financial upside as well, him being a potential Mexican hw champ. It's really mind boggling if they can't get it together.
