Why do so many people talk about fights like Floyd vs Pac, Bradley vs Winner of Garcia/Matthysse and so on. These fights are pipe dreams. Top rank will not share a card with GBP. They have never done it before, even when they both used HBO. Now that The networks have picked sides it is even more unlikely than before. Yet many people keep talking about these fights like THE FIGHTERS ARE TO BLAME, for the fights not being made. I would like to see Matthysse fight winner of Bradley/ JMM, but it won't happen. If GBP and Top rank were to share a card who would air the fight? Both promoters know that sharing a fight would be cutting their own throat. Would Arum take a chance at Bradley losing to a GBP fighter like Garcia or Matthysse? Why, when he can put him in with JMM and no matter who wins Top rank still promotes the winner. I know it is what the fans want, but since when did that matter?
Top Rank and GBP have pitted their fighters against eachother before. It's unlikely that it will happen again anytime soon though.
nothing will change until fans stop paying for fights that really dont matter in determining who the best is, and fans arent going to stop buying the bull**** fights. most fans know who the top 2 fighters in a division are, if these 2 dont fight each other, then dont buy their fights. if pac beats rios, dont buy his or floyds fights until they fight each other and i guarantee the fight gets made. fans are content with crying about it rather than doing their part to change it... and promoters know this very well.
When, I looked up HBO and Showtime and found nothing. could not even find a card where both promoters on same night, much less putting their fighter against each other.
De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao Hatton vs. Pacquiao Gamboa vs. Ponce DeLeon Lara vs. Martirosyian All of these featured a Top Rank fighter going against GBP fighter.
thanks I have been looking for this info. I have been watching boxing my whole life but I never paid much attention to politics of it until I started on this forum. I guess i have been like average fan and just thought boxing was more straight forward like football or baseball. I am learning that without a single governing body like the other sports boxing is riddled with corruption.
Yes, but the OP has a good point : Those fights all took place before the network split. It will be exponentially more unlikely to see the two promotional entities working together now that HBO and Show are intertwined in the debate.
They did do it before. Mosley destroyed Margarito. Hopkins destroyed Pavlik. DLH was supposed to destroy Pacquiao and put Top Rank on skid row. Since DLH was destroyed by Pacquiao Arum felt he dodged a bullet and vowed to not be put in that position again. It's more fear of becoming Don king than anything else, GBP almost killed Top Rank in 3 fights. Cotto was coming off losing to Marg so he was damaged goods, Top Rank was taking water on fast.
He's wrong that it's NEVER happened, but how many fights have there been since the Network Split? You referenced a FOUR-YEAR OLD fight. Name one that's happened in 2013?
That's a ridiculous question. The Network split happened only recently, more time is needed to know if it's impossible. If a certain fight will generate a lot of money and interest they will come together to make it. Fact is, no fight out there is bigger than Mayweather vs Pacquiao, that's probably the only fight both networks will work together to make.
