There is nowhere near enough footage of Gans to take him as no.1, regardless of his good it apparently was. John Conteh, Pernell Whitaker, Eusebio Pedroza and Larry Holmes just came to me instinctively. So they're all up there. Before anyone says it, Floyd hasn't faced a dynamic enough range of stylists to be considered IMO.
The most dominant jabbing display I've seen from Floyd was against Marquez, a man who's always struggled with jabbers and is often flat-footed. I've often wondered why more fighters don't try a jab-oriented method against him, probably because they've not possessed the physical and athletic advantages over him that Floyd did, and naturally being much more vulnerable to being hit with hard shots on the counter. Best jabbers I've seen.... Hearns Holmes Lewis Whitaker
I thought Mayweather used the jab to the body and jab generally against gennaro hernandez and diego corrales enough to show some impressive range / power / method with the jab as well as showing the different types of jabs like set up ones, ring generalship ones, single power ones etc surely monzon is a good shout here? he used that thing like a jousting lance (right word?) on a horse
Floyd has a decent jab, but his best weapon is the straight right, closely followed by his left hook. For my money, get Ike Quartey in there. Oscar De La Hoya deserves a mention.
Muhammad Ali..... Evander Holyfield.... Chris Eubank... Larry Holmes Lennox Lewis :Overrated jabbers.. Floyd Mayweather, he hardly uses it so it's hard to measure how good it is.
Calzaghe had an excellent jab. Mayweather also has an underrated jab. Lennox Lewis had a decent jab, which you'd expect for someone who had his reach advantage. Overrated.
Lewis is one of my favourites for the jab. When he used it with real intent I don't think there was too many better. A good few of his fights though he didn't use it to its full potential. Winky had a great jab could win fights with that alone. Watched a bit of Howard Davis jr, his jab was very very good when he was able to get it going. He wasn't great at keeping his distance for it though. No Liston mentioned always see his name thrown about for jabs but I've not watched a lot of him.
Lennox Lewis shut guys down, and hurt them bad with his jab. It was not overrated. Most big heavyweights these days hardly do any damage or breaking down with the jab.
