Top Ten Glass Jaws in Boxing

Kirkland might have the worst Chin in the sport right now. One of the worst I have ever seen. I expect him to rematch Ishida and get embarrassed again. Kirkland isn't credible until he takes that rematch.

 

Yes, it is because he has no Chin. He was hardly ever caught flush in his prime outside of the Del Valle fight (and he got dropped) and when he slowed down and could be caught that Fragile Mandible cracked. Now, maybe age and weight draining contributed to a decrease in his Mandibular Fortitude or maybe not. We don't know because he wasn't hit enough back in the day but we DO know that when he finally did get flush he couldn't take it. That's a Glass Jaw and it has nothing to do with bad defense because there are plenty of face-first brawlers who made a career out of using their Chins as their first line of defense.

Saying someone has no Chin or possesses a Glass Jaw doesn't literally apply to the Chin. It doesn't matter if you get hit in the temple, Jaw, eye, whatever. If you get dropped or KOed repeatedly by ANY type of shot, you have poor punch resistance, period. Sometimes punishment does lead to formerly Iron Chinned Warriors losing their ability to take a shot. Regardless of what led to it, inability to absorb punches equals GLASS JAW.

 

One important note is that over years of punishment, Oliver McCalls mandible has held sturdy. Some one needs to examine this up close one day when he retires
