He was beautifully proportioned, very strong and had power. BUT,who did he ever beat? Lewis never beat anyone within 5-10 years of their prime.
Let him beat up on drug addicts and old men and yes he looks very impressive.
Put him against someone good and he's less than stellar.

haha many of the British media didnt like him too. All you have to do is look up the British news articles after Lewis fights.

Records can be deceiving is my point. If you see a guy who beat Tyson,Holyfield and Klitschko you think "wow this guy was good." But look at the circumstances in which he beat them and you see how he was not special.

An old drug addict past prime Tyson. And old past Prime Holyfield. And a lucky cut win over Vitali.

Your location explains anything, anyone needs to know about the validity of your worthless opinion.

If you want to talk about fighters with drink and drug problems, would you like to name those ( junkies, and pissheads ) that Tyson built his reputation on?

    Sheer lunacy.

He plowed through the hardest hitting era the division ever saw, and at this rate, will ever see.

    Hail Lennox!

I got major issues with Lewis.

He won his major belts out of the bin and was stripped of every version of the title he held.

If you are ranking him top 5 . you are ignoring these facts. Lewis is not a top 5 HW.

Besides Louis and Ali, who else is above him?

That stunted Lilliputian who fought burned out old light heavies?

Marciano ,Holmes and Jonhson definitely. There's no argument for Lewis above them imo.

Lewis beat a Tyson that was losing to no name bums. The win holds no value.

First...a true champion cannot be stripped of the true title.

Secondly Lewis although not an exciting performer was an excellent all round fighter. Problem was many times he fought safety first leading to boring fights.

In shape he had the talent and power to beat anyone.

However he was koed twice both from single punches to the chin. This definitely knocks him down a few pegs. Definitely an all time top ten champion but steps below Ali, Louis etc. I would place him mid way top 10.

Doesn't make any sense. He was striped of his IBF title and retired because he was about to be stripped of his WBC belt (won both times through vacancy) so retired.

With these facts and by your reasoning , he can't be a 'true champion'.

Here s a question for you guys: can Holyfield ever be placed above Bowe in all time great lists? I realise he achieved more in the ring but H2H?

I liked Bowe in my younger days. But watching his fight with Herbie Hide on YT recently made me think how awful / sloppy he looked against a limited fighter. but perhaps that's the story of his career.

But how much credit does he deserve for being the only man to convincingly beat a (close to) prime Holyfield? Something which Lewis struggled to do several years later...
