Yes he avoided Jackson when he himself was semi retired and alcoholic.Jackson would have probably have beaten that Sullivan . What exactly is the relevance of that remark to this thread?
VVMM, I can forgive your poor English even when you insult others arrogantly who disagree, it muist not be your first language. But you are the one not showing any discerning intelligence here. People do not mean that Foreman & others could lift more weight, they mean strength relevant to the riing, punching, pushing, moving people around, maybe grappling. And (prime) Foreman was lean in body fat % until his comeback, not remotey fat. Also these powerlifting "girls" 1) they may be stronger than many strong men but this is much less likely if they do not use drugs, exceedingly common & arguably nearly ubiquitous at the top levels, & has a more radical effect on female bodies since they have ;little male hormones to begin with. 2) In Olympi lifting even more so, but that is also to a great degree due to needing a great deal of training to most efficiently hoist, throw & catch weights in very specific ways from the ground to overweight, difficult to coordinate. McVey, very good point on Sullivan. But why do you think he had a bunch of no contests, & why did it take 75 rounds against Kilrain? I will think about the argument for Louis, I just do not see his 1 punch power up at the tippy-top, more like Dempsey (who said Marciano hit harder) & Frazier. Though his combos made him more devestating, & the speed helped PREVENT folks from being, say, turned around by him. I see this like, say home run hitting. There is a book "Baseball's Ultimate Power" by a renowned historian Bill Jenkinson. He researched & rated the greatest DISTANCE hitters ever, which I will describe if there is interest. But: As an analogous example, The #1 HR hitter EVER Barry Bonds greatest shot was 493', & that was WITH steroids & much other potentiating drugs. #2 Hank Aaron & the incomparable #4Willie Mays BOTH did not nearly make the top 10, never hit a ball 500" in their lives. We are talking against MLB pitchinh, non-juiced ball, wooden bats... BUT they could hit further than 99.99guessthe$of9's % of the population. Not being able to hit amongst the very f=urthest/hardest in history does not mean thye could not be near OR the greatest HR hitter ever, or near or arguably the greatest all around ball player (Bonds with PEDS). I hope eveyrone appreciates the difference. A great center may be 7' or more & dwarf most everyone in the general population. But that does not mean he is not shorter than a few OTHER B-ball players, & relatively dwarfed by rare giants amongst the world citizenry.
Based on One Punch Power 1. George Foreman 2. Sonny Liston 3. Lennox Lewis 4. Wladimir Klitschko 5. Mike Tyson 6. Rocky Marciano 7. Joe Louis 8. Jack Dempsey 9. Max Baer 10. Bob Fitzsimmons Lineal only
Charley Mitchell squeezed out a draw with Sullivan by continually dropping to the ground.Kilrain was a noted wrestler possibly he smothered Sullivans work ,plus Sullivan was coming back from a complete physical collapse caused by booze. I'm English so you've lost me on baseball ,is Ty Cobb still playing? Louis put about 20 stitches in Braddocks face and put his teeth through his gumshield ,He broke Uzcudun's gold bridge and left his teeth all over the canvas, he dropped huge men with one punch , he belongs in any group of great punchers. Frazier does not imo, who of any note did he actually KO?
So why did the mouth guards not work then? Others hit as hard or harder than Louis & did not knock out teeth. Ty Cobb? I did not mention him, & he played mostly in the "dead ball" era, career 1904-1927. But why did you mention him? I just referred to some of the greatest home run hitters, that while they could hit very far, they did not necessarily hit amongst the very FURTHEST, just near or in ne case the most over a career. And making the analogy to HW boxing & punching prowess.
