Long time fan of your work and this is one of my favorite top 10 videos. But I had some questions and others on here may be wondering the same. How did Lennox Lewis get put at number 10 behind Jim Jefferies and Max Baer. Surely Lewis was a greater puncher than those two and even if it comes to just brute power, I don't see how Jefferies is ahead of Lewis...perhaps I'll give you Max Baer...perhaps. And Tyson being number 6 and Dempsey being number 2. It seems that those spots should have been switched. I do agree with Joe Louis being number 1.

One day when I have a bit of spare time, I will pen a brief article about Jeffries power.

You can definitely make a case for him being a heavy puncher, though you can also pour cold water on the claims.

I think it was based off a poll here, so not just his opinion.

Today, I would have Lewis at 9 and Wlad at 10.

Why wouldn't Lewis be ahead of Baer and Jefferies and Tyson/Foreman ahead of Dempsey?

There is circumstantial evidence to suggest that Jeffries was a devastating puncher, but I would be reluctant to rank him over men where the evidence was more clear cut.

Baer hit about as hard as anybody ever has, and had a god given reflexes. Depending upon your criteria, he could definitely be ranked highly.

Dempsey was one of the very best finishers that the sport has ever produced, and you could justify ranking him over darn near anyone!

The problem with judging Jeffries power is that for the most part, he was hitting smaller men who today would not be in the same weight division. How much impact that should have on an assessment of his power is of course up to the individual.
Guessing I'd say he was a solid puncher like a,Bonavena ,a Quarry ,or a Norton, maybe as hard a hitter as a Frazier, but less than the acknowledged supreme hitters.
Very difficult question to answer,in his time he was thought to be inferior to Sullivan and Fitzsimmons as a puncher.Did he hit harder than Choynski, Maher? Who really knows?

That would put Lewis ahead of Jeffries...

There really isn’t much separating Dempsey from Tyson and Foreman. I think what puts Dempsey ahead at #2 was his incredible combination of punching power tied with his punching speed.

As you say he was not regarded as being a puncher of the caliber of Sullivan or Fitzsimmons, but there were common opponents who said that he hit harder than Fitzsimmons.

I suspect that it was not so much his power that was lacking, as his delivery, or prowess as a finisher.

I'm not gonna lie I actually think Tyson actually has him beat in both categories but Dempsey had better head movement

What kind of finisher would Mike Tyson be if he were allowed to stand over his fallen opponents, fist cocked for them to make it to their feet? Does Tommy Gibbons last the distance against Mike Tyson? If this is a discussion of historical or legacy power (whatever that may be), then Dempsey gets a high ranking. But head to head... C'mon...
