NOt the 1990s, but the 1890s. I am very interested in how everybody (including Janitor and others) see the top 10 fighters (or at least top 5)ranked of the 1880s based on accomplishments and proven performance. It should be interesting.

Over the course of the next year or two I intend to post a topic on each different weight division (of the main ones) for each or most different decades. Hopefully we will see some discussion on some long forgotten fighters and surprisingly underated fighters through the decades.

If i get the energy, i might even tally up (like in that ATG thread) the scores for each of the fighters.

1890s should be an interesting discussion. Is the Fitz the best by beating Corbett? Can Jackson stake a claim with his wins over Dalton and Slavin and his draws with Goddard and Corbett? What about an old Sullivan, who still held the title belt early in the decade? Who fills the minor placings and in what order. Choynski, Slavin, Maher, Mitchell etc. Any bolters like say a Mick Dooley or unknowns that were considered highly at the time but are forgotten today (much like that 6 and a half foot bare knuckle fighter Janitor or someone posted about a while ago who was compared with Jeffries when jeffries was running around. I still cant remember his name).
