Morrison held a heavyweight title. Say what you will about the perceived legitimacy 21 years ago of the fledgling WBO - it now is considered among the "big four" in peerage with the IBF, WBC, and WBA and therefore its lineages dating back to inauguration are borne out as legitimate with the passage of time. Or did Joe Calzaghe for instance never successfully challenge for a super middleweight title until 2006?
Bert Cooper hit THAT hard, I would not have put him quite that high. Also Chuvalo could belt, but the 1 punch power of most of the others? I dunno about that, though a good swarmer makes up for it in volume. Well these guys DID hit very hard, I just do not see them in the, say, Lyle/Golota category. I would need to really look up Buddy Baer. Bigger than his brother, but did he hit as hard?
1. Earnie Shavers 2. Gerry Cooney 3. Tommy Morrison 4. David Tua 5. Bert Cooper 6. David Haye 7. Cleveland Williams 8. Tony Galento 9. Ron Lyle 10. Renaldo Snipes HM: Archie Moore
Waiaiait a moment. I am skeptical about Haye, though he certainly throws some Haye-makers! But Moore? A truly impressive ATG w/immense durability & boxing skills. But hit as hard as the top 10 challengers> I cannot see that at all. Cooney is an excellent addition. Moore much more skilled, not even close, Cooney not that STRONG, but Foreman named him, Williams & Lyle as the hardest hitters he ever faced.
We agree I was just getting a little exasperated that people were not reading the criteria before posting.
