    My apologies.

I have compiled a list of combinations that Fitzsimmons used to end a number of his fights and the left hook seems to close the deal slightly more often than the right hand.

I was not attempting to correct you.I think Fitz [as you say] was pretty even handed ,he seems to have been something of a precision puncher.
He said he gave Corbett the "identical finish I administered to Sharkey",
    nothing wild about old Bob.

I came up with 60, narrowed it down to 40, and then to 12. PM me if you want it.

One that quickly comes to my mind is Hearns (especially P4P). Surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet.

Some guys just "have it" when it comes to punching power, and Hearns was one of them, even though he didn't look like it. His right was one of the most impressive I've seen.

Why don't you post it? I'm sure we would all like to see it--this is a good thread.

What kind of reasoning is that? Why not post it here in the thread?

As far as punching power, I don't give a rat's turd for any element but pure power. Not p4p. So all I care about is who would generate the most pounds of force with there best punch on a measuring device.

That being said, I think some likely candidates would be Lewis, Foreman in his comeback, and perhaps Wlad. There are other behemoths worth mentioning but I'm too lazy to think.

Coupled with various reports, I think Foster has a decent case.

I think Joe Louis would be a bit outside of a top ten. His punches were just so compact that nobody saw them coming.

O dear. Mention of Tommy Burns but no stanley ketchel? Ketchel either knocked down/knocked out men that burns was unable to beat/knock down. Ketchel proved himself the harder puncher.

But he only competed at heavyweight once. I don't think he should be rated as a heavyweight puncher.

    Top 60 punchers

The list is in Chronological order. This means old timers will be listed first. It does not mean I think. Sullvian hits harder than Tyson or Shavers! I hope this is clear.

Criterion: This is a pure punching power type of list. The below six categories factor in making it ot not.

1 ) Fighter should have a high knock out percentage in his wins. We are grading power here, not chins. Punchers should usually stop journeyman type of opponents. If they do not, it is a negative against them.

2 ) KO's in non-heavyweight divisions do not count, but not stopping fighters in lower weight divisions is viewed as a slight negative. Power rarely increases when fighters move up in weight classes.

3 ) Stopping hard to stop contender’s in their primes or near primes matters. So do one punch knockouts, and devastating knockouts that are far more than ten counts.

4 ) Quality of competition is considered. Some fighters fought much harder to hit and stop fighters than others.

5 ) Fighters who proved their power on film by hitting opponents or heavy bags with great force cement their status

    6) Guys with numerous testimonials about their punching power are given extra considerations. This is especially true for fighters I have no seen on film.

The most qualified the fighters will rank highly in all six categories!

With that said here are lists.

Up first. The Fan’s top 60 all time punchers:

    1. Sullivan
    2. Fitzsimmons

    57. W Klitschko
    58. Brewster

    60 Virchis

Just missing the cut, and very arguable: Pat Killen, Lee Q Murray, Curtis Sheppard, Jose Urtrain, Jeff Merrit, Roy Williams ,Kallie Knotzee ,John Tate, Lem Franklin, Joe Choynski, and Buster Douglas. These guys would be in the top 75.

Since the list is older, I would probably take Virchis out, and add in somone new.
