You’re way off in your assessment. Most great heavies dominate by such a margin, that it undermines how good their contemporaries are, such is the case with any long tenured champ, Joe Louis and Larry Holmes competition are also underrated. But when you remove a dominant champ the division tends to flourish as bouts become more competitive.
Wlad would of crushed old Holyfield had he been able to get by Ibragimov or Michael Moorer had he gotten passed Eliseo Castillo. And on paper those names would of looked better but in reality he ended up fighting the better fighter at that time.
Fighting and defeating young prime - hungry contenders and doing it over a long period of time is more impressive than feasting on the bones of past greats. Although the latter gets more attention like Lewis’s win over Tyson etc.
chambers, Brock and Thompson were all quality heavies turned away by a better champion. Just look what Ruiz did to Joshua nobody expected that but Ruiz is prime and hungry.
Don’t try to diminish Wlad’s accomplishments it’s more impressive than most credit him for.

 

Joshua also defeated Povetkin he was still ring rated at time of fight (I think he still may be in top 10 now) was prince Martin rated when they fought (that would of been a bad rating but he may have for that glaskov injury fight)

Was Michael Moorer rated when Tua beat him? That would surprise me.
