Look at the record of Jones and DM, they fought basically the same guys but still you rank Jones in the top10 but DM only in your top20-30. I can´t see any argument which supports this. If you just look at Jones lhw career it is at best just slightly better than DM´s but in no way you can rank Jones 10-15 places higher than DM when you go by resume and achievement at lhw. No ****in' way.

    My knowledge of the division isnt deep enough for a top ten, but of the fighters I do know, Ezzard Charles comes out on top by a country mile. I'd then have in there as a top 5;

Archie Moore, Langford and then Saad Mohammed or Michael Spinks but dont know which way around I would put them.

    1. Darius never fought Jones.

    2. Jones unified all the belts, while Darius didn't

    3. While both men fought the same men for the most part, Jones probably fought a few additional top fighters that Micalczewski didn't, and generally looked more impressive at beating them.

    4. Jones won championships both above and below lightheavyweight, making his resume a tad more rounded than Micalczewski's.

    5. Jones at the age of 39, is still around winning semi-meaningful matches, wheras Micalczewski's career was basically finished by 2003. Additionally, Micalzewski lost to Julio Cesar Gonzalez who Jones previously defeated. So your ascertion, that both men have wins over the same fighters with no exception, has some merit but is not entirely correct.

Ive just seen this thread now, been away for a few days. Anyway, my top ten is most probably:

    1. Charles
    2. Tunney
    3. Spinks
    4. Moore
    5. Foster
    6. Loughran
    7. Langford
    8. Jones
    9. Galindez
    10. Conn

My top 6 are the only ones set in stone, the others are subject to change and just something i put together right now. I know whenever this subject comes up i go into why Moore has no case for number 1, so i'll save you guys the long-winded stuff, but i feel strongly about that. It is just my opinion that Spinks is above Moore, but i think that is justifiable. Good arguments are made for Tunney being overrated here legacy-wise, but i like him for number 2 resume conidered. Loughran is the only guy i would put in for number 6 personally. Jones i put in on h2h more than much else, but i could swap him for Greb maybe? Anyway, my top 6 is what i will keep, Charles is clear cut number 1 imo.

Jones never fought Michaelchewski. Oh, damned it works both ways. Funny, isn´t it?

He only could because DM was unrightfully stripped. Also DM was linear, Jones not. Here are the last five linear champs at lhw:
Well, Jones didn´t fight other top fighters DM beat. It´s about equal. Looking impressive is purely subjective and count´s as much as who has the nicer smile.

DM won a belt at cw but yeah Jones has the better resume career wise. BUT this is about lhw and there his work outside of lhw counts for nothing.

Yes, DM lost to JCG but this was his last fight before trying to comeback and in a very close fight. Does this hurt his legacy? Not much. Jones has the better longevity, right, but he also has more losses.
Nope, there isn´t much between them and there is no argument for ranking Jones 10-15 places higher. If you say Jones is about 10 and DM between 11 and 13, I would say it´s totally reasonable but your ranking of DM is bs.
Hm, I have the impression you don´t know much about DM but just looked up his record. Well, big mistake. A fight Jones-DM at lhw at DM´s prime would be close to 50/50. DM wasn´t your standard Eastern European boxer. He was a pressure fighter with a top notch chin, good defence, very good workrate, good power and speed and one of the best jabs in the history of the division. He would give Jones hell and win at least 1 out of three against him.

When did I ever say that he was 10-15 places lower than Jones? This is what I said:
When I say top 20 or 30 best lightheavyweights, that essentially means that he could be anywhere from 11-30. If you read the first part of that sentence, I never said anything about asigning him a rating, and certainly nothing about being 11-15 places behind Jones. What I said was " I'm not sure." Some alternative expressions for this statement include, I don't know, I'm uncertain or Couldn't say for sure.

If I were trying to rate Darius Micalzcewski lower than Jones by such a significant margin, I would have clearly came out and said with full conviction " I have Jones at #10, and Micalczewski is at #25. "

While I do not claim to be an expert on the career acheivments of Darius Micalczewski, nothing that I've said is falacious or a distortion of any truth. I was watching boxing more avidly in the 90's than I am today, and Jones was revered as the best lightheavyweight in the world as well as being one of the best pound for pound. There were some who criticized him for not facing Micalczewski, but the criticisms soon subsided. It was apparent who was the better of the two, at least in my eyes.....

    No, he's not.

Light heavies are hard to call. I have them:

    Tunney
    Langford
    Chalres
    Spinks
    Moore
    Foster
    Greb
    Jones
    Loughran
    Gibbons

Well from your "top 20 or 30 best lhws" I had the impression you would rank him between 20 and 30 which would be ridiculous.

While Jones clearly had the overall career it´s quite close at 175. Jones was not >clearly< better at 175. He was seen of that due to the media hype surrounding him but he had the advantage of beeing American. How much hype did DM get in the US? How many fight of him were shown?

The biggest match I ever saw him in, was when he defeated Virgil Hill, and it might have been a replay. He had some other fights that were shown here, but I didn't catch most of them. He was a good fighter.

I don't think they belong in a top 10 list.
