ESPN has had a good string of fights this year, I've enjoyed most of them especially the Wednesday fights. This was a good fight and should help Greene a lot. He went twelve hard rounds and found himself in a lot of situations that he can only learn from. Moving down in weight was a good move for Greene I always felt he was a bit short for a middleweight. I'd like to see Greene against Kirkland, Anthony Thompson, or even Joel Julio. Jr middleweight is an overall weak division but there are a few young guys coming up who could make it a strong division again.
I agree on all points. I hate to see the WNF series come to an end until next summer. They've had some good matchups and exciting bouts. This was a good fight for Greene. He's only 22 and took a wide decision against a tough veteran who came in with 20 wins and 18 KO's. A fight like this only helps a prospect like Greene. I think a fight between him and Kirkland would be dynamite, but I'm willing to wait a while to see it.
Definitly hate to see it end for the year, its been a good series this year. Waiting for Green-Kirkland makes it bigger and helps Greene but if it happens it will be a good one.
Well, Kirkland would certainly be the favorite; he is more polished than Greene. But Kirkland was also dropped by Conyers, and I think Greene hits much harder than Conyers does. A win by Mean Joe would not shock me, and it would probably be an interesting fight regardless of the winner.
As much as I like Kirkland I think he is vulnerable to a guy who can box him, keep him moving, and stop him from setting up his power shots. If Greene could avoid Kirkland's early rushes I can see him boxing his way to a tough decision. Right now Kirkland is a favorite over Greene but give Greene a couple more fights like tonights and I think he has a good chance in there. I've yet to see Kirkland's B plan when things aren't going his way.
Like you said, there are some good potential matchups at 154. I'd like to see the other two guys you mentioned, Julio and Thompson, matched up. Thompson is on FNF this week, so it's a good time to compare the two.
It's not often I agree with a Buckeye, but that's an excellent post, Bogart. :yep Greene and Kirkland are both exciting fighters, which is why they are two of my favorites.
If things go the way they have since your guy Tressell arrived in Columbus, you'll probably have the last laugh again.
