I tuned in to what I'd hoped was the start of the replay of Marquez-Nishioka only to stumble upon the live reading of the scorecards. Oops. So I know it went the distance, and know the result - but I still can't wait to see all the action (and score it for myself). With these two warriors it had to be good! :bbb

Don't know what happened, but ESB just wasn't there. I missed a round in my RBR calculations, but had it 1 round for Nishioka after I gave him the last round.

There were several early rounds in which Marquez was more active, but not more effective.

Now to watch the Marinez fight on DVR

Rafa looked lethargic from round one. Not sure if it was all those wars catching up with him or Nishioka's speed and footwork. Either way,Toshiaki was the better man and deserves the win.

Watching the replay of the card.

    Gonzalez-Soto round 1 underway.

I'll give my belated scoring for this and the main event.

    Round 1

Chocolatito is working the left jab very crisply, and hooking a bit as he circles wide around Soto. A few slapping overhand rights by Soto, and he tries to take a chunk out of Gonzalez's middle with a low left hook, but there is a huge gap in sharpness and accuracy between them as well as speed and power. Gonzalez takes a few cuffing left and right hooks to the sides of the head while leaning in, mostly Soto's wrists bouncing off his temples. Long jabs by Gonzalez, and Soto misses his long right hand in return. A few wild shots stepping forward by Soto before Gonzalez drills him back into range with the jab. Hook to the body by Gonzalez at the bell.

    10-9 Gonzalez

    Round 2

A pair of hooks by Gonzalez. A hard shoeshine down low by Soto. DOWN GOES SOTO FROM A VICIOUS EXPLOSIVE RIGHT HAND/LEFT HOOK COUNTER PAIR!!!! SEIS! SIETE! OCHO! NUEVE! DIES!! (why even keep counting, ref?? Soto is prostrate!!)

    OVER!

Apparently Gonzalez said that his late countryman, the legend Alexis Arguello told him "If you want to catch fish, you've gotta get your butt wet..."

I wasn't aware they were acquainted.
