Im too poor for the gym & Im missing spin class badly. Ive found a rowing machine for a fiver. Been reading up on it, I can see that its a great workout, though more upper body than legs (which spin is.)

Im curious about results. I dont want to bulk up...

    EDIT:

I've got a total gym instead. Any tips or advice or links to good sites appreciated :good

You think you'll "bulk up" from rowing?

Im curious about how my body will change. Rowers usually have big shoulders and arms.

You can do interval training of 3,5 or 12 rounds of 2-3 minutes with one minute rest to simulate the rounds in boxing and get cardio. It'll also help your legs and arms because you push with your legs.

I recommend using it...its a good idea. Especially the intervals, because thats sports specific.

eating more calories than you burn will bulk you up. Rowers are dead sexy. get it.

Every Female I've ever trained has been concerned about 'bulking up'. It's the same with some blokes who haven't trained, they assume they'll just pack on loads of muscle if they do any training.
It doesn't work like that, especially with Females. They don't have the hormones for it and you have to do a large volume of work and eat alot if you want to bulk up.
It's highly unlikely for a female to build muscle easily.

A rowing machine has a large cardio component to it so it makes it even more unlikely that you could get bigger from it. You'll burn energy and your arms will get some stimulus so you'll get leaner and toned looking arms from it if your diet is suitable.

You're more likely to bulk up if you visit the buffet table every night. With rowing, not so much.

No, but is there any danger of her getting the Marc Singer-Beastmaster wingspan look (ie. thick back and some lats development)?

Which is exactly what I'm looking for...

For those in the know, do you recommend the magnetic ones or the water-resistant ones?

    Thanks Puma.

    Good to know thanks.

My diet is great. My Dad has just given me a total gym. I havn't used it yet but he says it can be used like a rowing machine. I didn't specifically want a rower but it was so cheap & I miss my classes at the gym. I'm looking online for total gym work outs. My Dad raves about it but he can't use it anymore because he has a heart condition...

I use the rower about 2 times a week. Just wondering why noone joins a recreation center or volunteers at a youth club? Before I joined the military thats how I worked out and it was all free?
