So from what I got so far, Pavlik and Williams were supposed to fight December 5th, but Pavlik got a staph infection that had to postpone the fight.

Williams then signs on to fight Martinez.

Pavlik then gets better faster than he thought he would and still wants to fight in December, and can only get an opponent like Espino because it's short notice.

    Is that right?

Close. Pavlik asked Williams for two more weeks. It was Williams decision to move on. No one has faulted him for that.

Truth is there would not be an HBO date available in two weeks. Kelly really felt he needed more time, but the orgs forced his hand, no pun intended, and made him fight before the end of the year. There was no 'suddenly' other than when push came to shove, the hand did respond better than they thought it would. Still, probably not well enough for a Williams fight.

Espino's tactics did surprise me. I've never seen him before so I don't know if he's capable of anything else but going straight ahead toe to toe with Pavlik was slightly bizarre. They had to know they didn't have the physical strength and power in that fight.

It was fun while it lasted but it was never going to last very long. Espino was quite tough and game, if he'd have fought with a different tactic he could have lasted a lot longer.

Hermit was pretty much on the nose.

Pavlik had to postpone a couple times because of the infection, which was so bad he nearly died according to some people. Then leading into November/December he couldn't fully close his hand, and he twice rescheduled, but the second time Williams said no, which was in his right.

Pavlik stated he was not 100% which he would need to be to face someone like Williams, and he (Pavlik) knew that.

So when Williams said no, the orgs stepped in and said "you fight or you get stripped".

So he set up a fight against a guy who he didn't NEED to be 100% for.

I believe that it was actaully the second time that Pavlik called off his fight with Williams. My guess is like Williams HBO got sick of waiting for Pavlik. These guys dont know anymore about this then you or I, but that act like they do. It is odd that Pavlik got well so fast. The problem that I have with them calling of the fight was the timing of the whole thing. They called it off way back when and couldnt have been sure that Kelly wouldnt have gotten better. I truely think that those rumors of Kelly having some personal problems may have more to them then smoke. I too question that pick of his foe, surely they could have found a better guy.

Keep up. Goosen is claiming he never signed the Dec. 5 contract so how could Kelly have pulled out of the fight if Paul never signed the contract. He called Arum a liar for saying it had been signed. Not sure he helped his case there.:nut

Yes, Pavlik didn't fight Espino for credit. He fought to keep his belts and it was there testing the water to see if his hand held up and he was back in good health.

I get pulled into the mud by the haters some times, but I really do try to be accurate. You know the thing about having a good memory if you are going to lie.....

Pavlik said he would be willing to fight on the 5th, and Williams said NO. Williams then went and signed Martinez.

Pavlik then was going to let it rest and get better, but the orgs stepped in and said he had to fight or give up his belt.

So then Pavlik set up a fight against a tune-up quality guy, even though he wasn't 100%, figuring he wouldn't NEED to be 100%.

Pavlik said he was set to go on the 5th with Williams, but Williams said no. So why is it odd that Pavlik would fight two weeks later? He said he'd fight on the 5th.

If he said "You know what I'm not fighting until the summer" and then without the orgs or whoever stepping in, set up a fight immediately for two weeks later, THEN that would be something.

So Pavlik signs up to fight Williams.

Then he gets his infection and pulls out of the fight.

Williams still wants to fight a top notch guy who will fight him, signs to fight Martinez.

The belts get involved saying that if Pavlik doesn't defend his title within the year he gets stripped. (Which to me is fair, he hasn't defended it in a while).

Pavlik, who may or may not be 100% finds a soft touch to beat up just to keep his belts. (a good call if this is true)

They both win, and fight in June (the last part is my wishfull thinking).

    Does that sound right??

    Thanks for the info guys,

Let's get real. This win proves nothing. I think most of Pavlik's fans know this anyway. It just proves he's healthy and can fight again. I don't see Williams beating Pavlik, Pavlik hits too hard and Williams does get hit plenty. That's just how I see it.
