People made a big deal out of this in the Pac-Mosley fight. Some even ludicrously said that showed the fight was fixed. (Conspiracies have the public portrayal as the opposite of what was going on. If the fight were fixed, they 'd have pretended to be total enemies publicly.) I just saw video [youtube] of the Norton-Cobb HW fight. A little known gem and toe-to-toe war till the final bell. Gone are the days when neither fighter clinched throughout as with this one. But they touched gloves at the start of every round, and even at the end of many of the rounds. Did it mean anything? A poster posted Norton's book, page 168, where Norton details how after the fight, Cobb met him in the lobby and wanted to go at it "mano a mano". Norton admits to being scared of the crazy *******, and called the police. He later found out that Cobb had bet his whole payday on defeating Norton. And was none too happy at the end. http://books.google.com/books?id=vLUIJPx6lIgC&q=tex+cob#v=snippet&q=cobb&f=false Shows touching gloves in the ring means nothing. But check out the fight on youtube if you never saw it. And Norton with the win, won the right to fight Cooney as a sort of elimination bout to fight Holmes. I trust you know what Cooney did.
It's a Mosley thing, clever really, stops the other guy getting set straight off from the bell or at a re-start. Go watch DLH/Mosley & both fights were all touchy-feeeeely at the starts of rounds & when breaks happended in the action. If Mosley came with that lets be pals "respect" shite with Duran then Roberto would have snapped his ****in arm off & clubbed the **** to death with the offending appendage:yep:bbb
This was more than at the beginning and end of rounds though in Mosley Pac fight. This was all the time after punches had been thrown during rounds. Stopping Pac getting vicious. Was total *** behaviour. I'm sure no one has a problem with glove touching beginning of rounds and end as long as the action in between is fine.
I kept expecting Pac & Mosely to kiss. I like the whole "touching-gloves" idea. It's a sign of respect, and better than the typical "macho but meaningless" stare-downs that so many fighters adopt.
I have no problem with people touching gloves at the start of every round, but if it's going to restrict the intensity and competitiveness of the fight - as was the case with Mosley and Pacquiao - then I'm against it. When one guy is in fight mode and he’s eager to get stuck in, the last thing he wants is his opponent smiling with his hand out for a respectful touch. Which is what Mosley was doing. It’s also Pacquiao’s fault for obliging him. He should have just done what Floyd did, and punch him straight in the mouth for trying to talk to him in the middle of a fight.
Yeah to link it to a fixed match is stupid.. I hate when people say that ****, like how do they even relate.. I don't mind it at the end of a round, but not at the beginning..
It really p****s me off Touch gloves when the ref asks before the fight, then be an animal in the ring Mosley v Pac was a joke
Mosley likes to touch gloves a lot as an appolgy for any little infraction in the ring. Which is why I loved it when Floyd decided to hit him when Shane went for a glove touch during their fight... and then they talked whole bunch **** to each other right after that.
I'm as fervent a Pacquiao fan as you'll find on this forum, but I must admit I ****ing hated the glove-tapping in the Pacquiao-Mosley fight. It mildly irritated me in the Clottey fight, but it absolutely infuriated me in the Mosley fight. Mosley was very obviously using it as a way of turning Pacquiao's respectful mentality against him, knowing Manny wouldn't reject the tap so Shane could use it to break Pac's momentum and buy himself a little time and space continually. A glove tap directly after a KD?!!!! ****ing BULL****. You're supposed to be trying to put your hand through the guy's skull. :fire:fire:fire I was even more angry at Manny than I was at Mosley, because Mosley was being devious but it was Manny who was permitting it happen. Manny needs to realize that you don't have to be an unsportsmanlike, unscrupulous ******* like Mayweather is in the ring, like when Floyd hit Gatti and Mosley with cheap shots, but you can still be too professional and ruthless to get dragged into glove-tapping love-in's. I hope he realizes this now and we never see a repeat of what happened with Mosley. Be friends after the fight. Be at war during it, fair and honourable but still fiercely competitive at all times, bad intentions. This is warrior spirit. Glove-taps are bull****, I ****ing hate them.
This reminds me of Agapito Sanchez throwing non stop bombs at Pac's nutsack and Pac would still not retaliate. He was ****ing pissed off but refused to foul.
That was remarkable to see and shows what an exceptional person Manny is. So to have to endure the outrageous claims from FMJ re drugs--well I hope he takes him good in court as he should based on the evidence, or lack thereof.
