Touching the gloves after each round?

i'm kinda glad he retired when he did ... because if he had fought on and kept loseing we would have been able to write a book full of excuses

 

I agree, its unnecessary, its a boxing match not a sparring session.

Very few fighters can get away with it to where it works to their advantage. I think Winky is one of those fighters to where he does it in every fight almost and seems to almost form a friendship with the boxer he is fighting. Almost, like he gains a physiological edge from it. It suits his style in that he isn't a huge puncher who is trying to hurt you, but more strategically outpoint you.

He lost to Leonard fair & square, he was outboxed & knew it (hence the little dance afterwards) & rather than being honest, he cried for 22 yrs (& counting) not because he actually thought he won but because he was angry with himself for coming up short vs his biggest rival of the decade, a man that he believed he could beat & knew that the winner would be numero uno of a generation.

I dont blame Marvin for being angry but at least be angry with the man mostly responsible... Marvin Hagler, a good man & a great fighter but ultimately..... no Sugar Ray.

My old coach used to tell us you do it before the fight/spar and thats it. If our lads used to touch gloves at the start of a round whilst sparring he used to gp nuts and make us do laps outside ha ha. Personally I dont see the problem during sparring but not in a fight. If it goes the distance you should do it at the start of the final round but that is it.

 

In reference to the thread title - last rd only or after a really memorable rd, I could accept that.

 

if you would watch his fights you would see why he feels he never lost. i personally agree with him and had him beating leanord, i would settle for a draw too tho.

 

Who cares? It's just a sign of mutual respect and good sportsmanship. Big deal if some fighters do it after every round. Mosley does it alot and his career has turned out fine.
