Yeah and after all of that they didn't even grant him the pyrrhic "glory" of going the full 10 (not that I'm saying they shouldn't have stopped it, at all). So much potential brain damage for literally nothing. Maybe 1% of boxing fans in the world will have ever seen this relatively insignificant fight card.

 

Yeah, his only defeats are to Petrov (who seemed like a tomato can when Maidana smashed him but in hindsight proved to be a very legit technician with toughness and heart to spare) and Silky González. Pap's been lurking in the shadows for a while now. Probably has been top 15 at the weight for a good while now but is largely unknown outside Russia.

I get leery watching fights like that in Eastern Europe, man. I watched Kovalev vs. Simakov live, on a crappy pixelated stream on my ancient (running Windows 95 or something) work computer at the time and even with the low quality it was obvious before the match even ended that something very bad was happening, just had this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Almost swore off the sport from that (as did Kovalev himself).

 

Uriel showed a remarkable chin, but given that he was taking several shots in succession on multiple occasions from the sixth round on, that could and should have been stopped a lot sooner.

 

About time we see him in with someone live... He's not a top HW prospect for me though.
