And who made them quit? Kosta quit on his stool against Hatton. Shows just how badly Hatton can wear a guy down. Thoughts?
Chacon against both Arguelo and Boza I. Against Boza, his legs just gave out, but he was just out of shape and gassed badly against Arguello. Bobby was a super tough guy though.
I think Kostya quit on his stool because he didn't think he could win a decision, and didn't feel he could knock Hatton out. It would have been different had he never before loss, or been stopped. He may have cared more about hearing the final bell.
Arguello actually decided not to fight on vs Pryor in the second bout. Pryor (And many years of fighting) wore him down mentally. I for one sure don't hold it against him, he's a legend.
Good one. The image of Arguello sitting there, arms folded across his bent legs like that, just shaking his head at the ref..........in his case, totally excused. He and everyone else knew that was it. No reason for apologies there.
When past their peak of course Chavez Vs De la hoya 2nd Duran Vs Pat Lawlor ( After Leonard 2nd Quit) McCall vs Lewis ( He Quit fighting - Mental Breakdown )
If I recall, I thought his trainer toss in the towel so to speak. I think he gave him 1 more round, and if Brewster could not get anything going, he was going to call it a night.
Bill, I'm sorry; I don't think Qawi is a good selection. He was past his prime and two divisions above it. He was also in with the lightest Foreman I can recall on the comeback trail(around 235lbs.), but was still well outsized.
Qawi wasn't in shape. He took that fight at 2 weeks notice or less. He was doing okay for a while. Lots of those guys on Foreman's comeback "bum of the month" were late-substitutes or late call-ups, some were guys who hadn't fought for a year, two, three years even. You are right about Foreman's weight. He was in good condition for Qawi, I think he was aiming to get down to his 1970s fighting weight (he was only 7-10 pounds over v. Qawi) but decided he was good enough at 250+ to go 12 rounds, and the extra weight gave his opponents even more problems.
Never heard of that one. How about Sugar Ray Robinson quitting vs Joey Maxim? Rocky Marciano once quit in an amatuer match, and he was as tough as they come.
