After the sixth round McGirt told Brewster were trying and nothing's happenins so i'm going to stop the fight, and Brewster nodded in agreement.
I can think of a few instances where a tough fighter turned his back on an opponent after getting cut. Two of them involved Joe Frazier, when Chuvalo turned away from him, and when Quarry also turned away in their rematch. Frazier/Quarry II was the one instance of a stoppage resulting in no appearance of a protest by Jerry. A third instance was when James "Hard Rock" Green became fazed by the sight of his own blood against Frank "The Animal" Fletcher, and simply froze, just covering up in panic until the referee stopped it. Later, Green did keep his composure when John Mugabe also turned him into a bloody mess, again forcing a halt to the proceedings.
Yeah, he did the right thing and to this day I don't think he regrets it. He knew he didn't have a chance @ that point.
Ali Liston 1 is NOT the greatness upset of all time. That title belongs to Douglas Tyson. Looking back at it, I feel Ali should have been the favor to win.
Because Liston has slow down by the time Ali got to him, Sooner or later Liston was going to lose the title. Tyson was on top of the world, IN HIS PRIME, and was a God in the ring.
Most people felt at the time that Tyson SHOULD have ko Douglas in 1 or 2 rounds. I didnt think Douglas would win either.
many times has a tough fighter simply quite becuase in all boxing is a sport and its not worth dieing over. dewitt quit against james toney saying its no use to go on acelino frietas quit against diego coralles after a late surge carl daniels quit against bernard hopkins saying that the body attack was to much today andrew golota quit against mike tyson due to a unseen brain concussion that would have led to a stoppage imo if the fight went on jeffrey resto quit against carlos maussa after a possible miscalculation with stamina james leija had to quit against kostya tszyu after a damaged equilibrium which would have decrease his defense tremedously due to situations many tough fighters quite and although it may not always be fair to the viewers, i cant blame them becuase they know how much there body can take.
Legends such as Roberto Duran, Jose Napoles, Jack Johnson, Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Mike Tyson, Joe Gans, Bob Foster, Sam Langford, Marcel Cerdan, Willie Pep, Kosta Tszyu, Alexis Arguello Ezzard Chalres, Jake Lamotta, Archie Moore, and many others have quit.
