How long you've been a boxing fan? "No where else to run" doesn't exist in boxing. Best current example is Floyd vs Pacquiao fight.
Well I admit I ****ed up in saying that, because I forgot to account for moving up in weight again, but in his current weight class, there would be no other legitimate opponent left, if Mares defeated Rigo.
No, just me thinking.Nothing that i heard. That fight in LA,Vegas or wherever mexicans are in large numbers will sell for sure. With a decent undercard can even go PPV.IMO.
Not even Donaire-Mares could go PPV. The sad fact is that there's not enough people who care about the lower weight classes.
true. this is why hamed is so special that he started making the fans watch the lower weights. it then carried on to barrera, morales and then pac where these featherweights could earn millions.
ah cool I could see Bob using rigo as his hit man I think he would let rigo fight on a goldenboy show too so he wouldnt have to pay his purse...
Not sure how Mares, a guy with a proven soft body, and a hurtable chin, would be favored over Rigondeaux, a murderous body puncher. Rigondeaux has exibited one shot power to both the body and head. Mares has never faced such a precision, technical boxer. Rigondeax has the ability to repeatedly land power shots on on Mares. Whereas Mares hasn't shown any semblance of devastating power period. This would be a beat down.
The question here is on Rigo. He has never faced anyone on the level of Mares. Not even close actually. Rigo is still a big question mark specially on his chin and a guy like Mares will test it. The pressure will be too much for Rigo. I see him getting stopped and so does Arum. He wont make this one.
It's not that Arum won't make it because Rigondeaux would get stopped. Arum probably wouldn't make it because he doesn't play nice with others, and even if he did make an offer, Golden Boy would laugh at it because Mares is a big enough name from their perspective that he should get the Donaire offer straight away.
Rigo would find Mares with ease. The question becomes whether or not he can get Mares to respect his power.
Even if this offer was actually to be made (and I'm not holding my breath), would GBP even take it? Mares was just in a very risky fight against a skillful, defensive fighter with no appreciable fan-base who could easily have made Mares look awful (it's to Abner's credit that he didn't). Do you want to put your fighter in another fight like that straight away? If it was written into the contract that the winner faces Donaire, I think Mares would pressing Oscar to make the deal. As it is, I doubt Arum makes any offer. If he does, GBP reject it, saying they're only interested in Donaire. I'd love to see the fight but I think it'll take something much bigger than this to force Top Rank and GBP into working together.
Arum has little to lose, selling Rigo for a fight like GBP did with Lara can benefit old Bob in 2 different ways: 1- if Rigo loses he can find the excuse to keep Rigo away from Donaire, and buy more time to see Mares junping to TR 2- if Rigo wins he will establish his name at the highest level and make the Nonito fight more marketable. Te question here is what GBP would do.And who else is available at 122 for the big showdown.
You realize Mares doesnt always fight like he did Saturday right? He is more of a boxer puncher with a decent defense. Not the best but decent. He is as proven as they come. He has taken big power shots from the most dangerous bantams and beaten them all. Mares can fight with a mask of blood streaming down his face and is unfazed by it all. Rigo got stunned by a jab and recently stunned against a B level fighter. The big question mark here is is Rigo even elite in the Pros?
Im staying out of who wins or lose. The point here is if there are chances of this fight happening. i believe its a very entertaining fight. And assuming Rigo beats the Thai boy.
