Amateur boxer Gordon Izzat, a close friend of unbeaten professional middleweight Craig McEwan, has died tragically at the age of 27.

Izatt, a former Scottish Eastern District Featherweight champion, had previously hoped to turn professional but had been planning to retire from the sport later this year to pursue a career in the security industry.
He was found dead at his home in the Wester Hailes district of Edinburgh last Sunday and is believed to have taken his own life.

McEwan’s father Rab trained him at a local boxing club, and had been arranging a farewell bout at a show in September.

Izatt, who fought over 60 times at amateur level, is survived by his partner Rachael and four year old son Aiden. His funeral will be held at Warriston Crematorium, Edinburgh on Tuesday 13th July at 2.00 pm.
