I'd sooner take a kid with 100 Muay Thai fights over a lad from the Olympics. They'll have better fundamentals and more of a willingness to listen and learn for starters.
This. Licked Giardello so bad first time round Joey and his team wanted nuttin' to do with Benton when Joey held the straps. Had a fairly low output considering his active years, because it was hard for him to get fights. Maddest thing is that many at the time considered him boring, and yet he was also renowned for his craft and punch, and on film looks positively the opposite of 'boring'! High standards of the times as well as some fights where he just sneaked his way through. Mims was better at that than Benton even. Incredible era! Liston could not land a glove on Benton in sparring.
Also, it's a misconception that Nak Muay simply drop the elbows, knees and kicks and take up boxing. Thai fighters are expected to be able to compete in both. Somluck Khamsing won Gold at the Olympics from a Muay Thai background and only took it up as he'd dominated the field in Muay Thai.
I'll just agree Most of the local Muay Thai shows are of a really high standard, sometimes there's lads on from Holland and Spain. The main thing is that both fighters come to win and come for the stoppage, even though they're only being paid commission only on tickets and any sponsors they bring in.... the shows are run at cost anyway save for a small amount of profit for the organisers for their time. All the fights are entertaining, you don't ever get a time such as at a Maloney or Allegedly show where there's 6x3's on and think it's a good opportunity for a **** break and to get a beer.
Good old Cus :deal cant beat the guy, he told Ali why and how Frazier was going to beat him and it happened exactly as he said it
the percentage pf thai boxers who make great boxers is a lot smaller than the percentage of boxers who make great boxers. if that makes sense?? i have been to plenty of thai boxing shows in the uk and trained and sparred in thai gyms in the UK nad overall the standard of boxing is low.
Never really thought about this, but I love to watch JMM and he and Beristain seem to have a great relationship.
Tyson went off course a bit after Cus passed away, he got into drink, drugs and there was the whole "****" thing . . . Seriously Cus was a great trainer, Tyson had the best style in boxing because of working with him. **** Atlas and his hard man act
