Absolutely spot on,Ive been saying the same thing myself for years.Joe was a success despite his dad and not because of him.Joe would have been a great no matter who trained him.

 

i think the real question is how much better joe would have been with a proper trainer?

enzo calzaghe showed he ISNT a good trainer or cornerman last night...or at least showed some serious limitations.

enzo macrennelli got knocked out in the 9th round last night of a world title elemination fight...a fight that he could have easily..EASILY..won.

i blame enzo clazaghe most.

between the two enzo's they didnt show half a boxing brain between them.

his opponent ola wasnt enzo's level...isnt enzo's level...but what his party piece was / is...is being durable...covering up, going on the ropes...like a poor mans version of ali's rope-a-dope....he can take tremedous punisment, he doesnt mark up and has a sperb chin...but he is not a good attacking boxer.

it was obvious to me, and should have been to any boxing fan watching {and i am not just saying this in hindsight} that after the 3rd round the way this was going to go....enzo was punching himself out...he was hitting him with everything, but because of ola's rope a dope and tight defense nothing was landing cleanly..enzo was clearly puffing and blowing hard..trying harder and harder to knock his man out...ola would take it all and just walk of the ropes fresh as a daisy...

a boxer has a game plan, what his trainer tells him..in betwen rounds he is given instructions on what he must do...he puts all his trust in his trainer..

he was slapping macrenelli in the face between rounds, trying to fire him up, sending him out like a bull in a china shop, with no game plan only keep trying for the knockout....
i seriously couldnt believe it from a supposedly world class trainer...all he had to do was tell him to ease off, save his energy for the points win {and up until the end macrennelli had a huge points lead...all ola was doing was defending...and well}...
the instructions should have been after the 3rd round...you are not going to knock this fella out..he's a spoiler..stand off him and pick your punches nice and easy, go for the points win at a canter..and the job's a good un..

in the 9th macrennelli was exhausted..he had totally punched himself out...he was sleep walking....he walked into a superb punch that he didnt see coming...and rather than e knocked spark out by it, he was too knackered to get up from it like he would have done being fresh...

in the interview after the fight macrenelli hinted at retirement...which would be an awful shame, cause he's better than that...and with anyone else in his corner last night, he would have won that fight every day of the week..
