How long did they usually prepare for the fights? I know that Wlad has usually 5-6 weeks camp in Austria, and 5 weeks pre-training camp (total 10-11 weeks). Vitali camps were usually not as long as Wlad's (total of 8 weeks usually, 6 weeks for Sosnovski including 3 week-camp in Austria) Holyfield in his prime had usually full 3-month training camps. When 46 before Valuev fight he only had 1 week camp though. Povetkin usually has 3-4 months training camps. Wilfred Benitez had one of the shortest camps, he usually trained at his max only 2-3 weeks before the fight (sometimes even less than that). Would like to hear stories from Classic posters about other boxers from different era, especially from older eras (Dampsey, Louis, Marciano in their championship fights).
The old timers often had shorter training camps, because they fought more regularly. For example Joe Louis only had a month to prepare for the Jimmy Braddock fight, after the contract was signed. Jeffries originally scheduled a three month training camp for the Munroe fight, but an injury forced the fight to be postponed.
I'd like to read about Dempsey camps when he was world champion. Also about Fitzimmons and Jack Johnson. Do you have any info about their camps Janitor?
There are detailed descriptions of a lot of these training camps. For example Adam Pollack has pieced together Jeffries training camp for the Munro fight.
