Thinking of spending two weeks at a Thai training camp instead of a traditional holiday. Found Tiger Muay Thai and they cater for traditional boxing (trainers have a good CV). Bein Thailand it's very cheap, about $700 for accommodation, two meals a day and as many group session as you want and a one on one session each day.

Anyone done this or got any feedback?

My feedback would be go to tiger if you want a holiday, but if you want proper thai training i would be more inclined to look at sinbi or jittis.

TMT is catering for americans, and people who aren't thai boxers. so the sessions aren't as hard and you don't seem to get as many people wanting to go and pul their pudding out there. jittis and the other camps like sinbi (who currently have sanchai there) have more fighters and is more of a "fighters gym" where as tiger is more of a "holiday gym" if that makes any sense.

I know jittis will be a bit cheaper than 700 dollars, but i also know it will be better training than TMT. if i had the choice between them, it would be without a doubt jittis.

I hope this has been of some help to you fella, anything else, just ask and ill do my best to help you bud.

Having only heard others experiences mate I've not yet been to TMT, it is not "traditional" thai training. I know MMA guys who had a good time there, and got a chance to roll with some of the UFC guys, I know roger huerta has trained there and Im pretty sure tom lawlor and jon fitch have too.

Obviously if your looking to go, do a bit of training, see some of the UFC guys, do a bit of MMA and see the nightlife too, TMT will be perfect for you. It is situated in phuket which (being an island) is surrounded by beaches etc. The pull of them may be strong lol.

However if you want a bit more of a traditional gym, i would suggest sinbi, rawai, jitti. I know 2 guys who train at jitti every year, and liam harrison from bad company gym has trained there a couple of times as far as Im aware.

If your looking to go, train like a machine, learn muay thai and possibly fight; choose a more traditional gym. If you're looking for a bit more of a holiday, with some training thrown in, by all means go to TMT. It just depends what you want to get out of it.

I was looking at training hard a few times a day (pads/bags) and chilling on the night (no drinking/clubs etc).

I've heard alot of good things about Lanna Muay Thai in Chang Mai. Also Fairtex which will probably be the most expensive option though!

If your looking for that mate, then look/shop around. There are so SO many gyms that go unheard of, you can go out in the sticks, or stay closer to main cities, it's entirely up to you. But if you want real thai training. Go to a thai ran camp. TMT is american ran (ray elbe i believe)

So many camps that go unheard of, just be aware that not all will accept "farang"

Best of luck finding somewhere mate, the gyms are forever changing too. A gym may be good one year due to a few select coaches, then the coaches may leave for elsewhere the year after

Have a click around there that looks to be up to date and gives you a look at the different gyms you can go to.

    Thanks bam-bam that's great info.

For me, I'm only really a beginner at boxing so am looking at the two weeks as fitness and boxing from a beginners perspective, not sure I'm ready just yet for anything too intensive!

The TMT training/holiday environment seems exactly what I'm after for this particular trip.

Really appreciate the info, still gives me plenty to research on other options just in case.

No worries mate. Ah well if that suits your needs, go for it I'm sure you'll have a ball. Just bear in mind that you will get nowhere unless you pay for it in Thailand, it's cheap but it still costs.

    Best of luck finding somewhere.

I've not trained in holland myself, but they come highly reccomended fro a muay thai conniseur who seems to have trained all over lol. They've all trained champions those gyms.

Mike's Gym has Manhoef, Badr Hari, Groenhart. Vos gym, turned out Hoost, had Bonjasky for a number of years, Hardonk, Ivan Hippolyte. Mejiro has turned out Kaman, Bonjasky and a whole whole host of champions.

If you pick any of them mate you'll be fine. They're the only ones that come recommended but I'm sure there is more, if anybody else can reccommend any. If theres anywhere in the world to train apart from thailand, it is definately holland.

    Nice one bam bam.

To train at Mikes Gym would be awesome (Hari? Damn!).

Do you have to be of a professional level to do a camp there or not?

tIger is not good for muay thai, if you want to train mma go for it.
But for muaY thai go to sinbi, i have heard lots of good things about sinbi and if i was to ever go the phuket i would go to sinbi.
I just got back from fairtex in pattaya and cant wait to go back, going for 2 months in december. Probably wont go back to fairtex for the whole times because it is very expensive. But will go back there for a week or 2 when i go back.

best thing i have ever done was going to thailand and train my muay thai

    No mate It says about training camps;

"fighters outside holland can now enter a training camp at the famous mikes gym. We can pick you up at the airport and give you a ride to a hotel nearby mikes gym the training is all day through"

justt click on the "training camp" section of the website, or to read the whole site, google the name of the gym, and instead of clicking on the sites themselves, click on "translate" it also has an email so wether or not its worth dropping them a line and asking about training/prices etc. you can ask them if you have to be pro, but Im pretty sure it would have mentioned something if you did.

But i definately agree about badr hari....damn indeed.
