I was quite sore today comming back a week from vacation a few days ago, worked hard first 2 days in the gym, ran and did shadow boxing for an hour the next day. Now today i go boxing, i feel pumped i felt ready i workout but i was real sore, back, biceps, shoulders, traps, quads, lats were all sore. I felt stiff and my punches had no power, no snap at all. At first i thought it that bad, then when i went to the pads i realized how wrong i was. I guess i tricked myself thinking i was completely fine and gave myself an excuse to train. Was it good that i came to the gym anyway to get that workout in even though i am sore? Or should i have rested the day i ran and today. Im sparring again on friday and i dont think ill be able to be fully recovered. I honestly feel sort of stupid but i just get so pumped to hit the bag, do few rounds shadow boxing . I just love training in general but man i was completely off today and my coach noticed.
:yep I know how you feel. I was training like made 3 weeks ago and training/working out/playing basketball everyday and some days combining the two for 2 weeks. But then my achilles injury came :verysad it's almost 100% now and I have a feeling I'll be back at it again
i workout like crazy i find it fun and quite addicting, im not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing first one in the boxing gym last one out. Workouts are always intense only breaks i take are in between rounds or when someone really good is sparring so i could study and learn more. :verysad i go ****ing crazy if i don't do anything related to boxing on the days the gym is open or closed. I hate my resting day which is every saturday haha
I think you already know what the answer is. Sore muscles are a sign that they need to recover (repair & rebuild). I know how you feel though. Sometimes, being consistent in training is about creating a mental state that borders on "addiction". A lot of us go through the same thing, e.g. my leg/arm hurts, I have a cold, I feel sick, i'm exhausted - should I train today? Just remind yourself that training can hinder your recovery sometimes, and that your body needs adequate rest periods. Rest can be just as beneficial as training. A compromise would be to make it an "easy training day". E.g. spar with a beginner and go easy, or just cardio, or just footwork, etc... Whatever doesn't exacerbate what already hurts.
thanks! although ive read somewhere that soreness isnt an indication always an indication that your muscles are still repairing and that it can be beneficial. Check up super compensation if you have the time, the only problem is that ive been training consecutive days and wanted to hear from other people.
No, it's not the smartest thing to do. Feeling sore? Stretch, Get some quality calories in (protein, healthy fats etc), do some recovery exercises (25 minutes on a stationary bike at the gym is a good one), Go to the sauna/steam-room and chill or use some ice packs etc. Train smart, not hard.
