Hi guys, I was diagnosed with a heart condition a year ago which is congenital called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, as a result my doctor told me not to do any competitive sports or training. I used to box at uni and lift weights. I was around 12 stone and now I've ballooned up to 15.1 stone at 5ft10. Does anyone know of any sort of training I could do to keep fit and get rid of this excess weight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypertrophic_cardiomyopathy
Walking. Listen to your doctor. Don't play with this. I know people who have suddenly dropped dead from this.
Eat healthy, take omega 3, and be careful with physical activity. If you want to lose weight, the diet is key- calculate your BMR and daily caloric needs, and count calories every single day. Eat 300-500 kcal below your daily needs, and you'll lose 1 lb a week. Eat oats, salmon, tuna, chicken, green veggies, brown rice, etc etc- healthy foods that you prepared- not microwaveable trash filled with sodium. No soda, sugars, fast food etc. It will work if you stick to it. I've had some heart troubles myself (arrythmia), and I know how shitty it is. Good luck with everything.
Listen to the doctor and forget about training your life is more important. Just curious how were you diagnosed?did you have any complaints before the diagnose?
That sucks man. I hope everything is ok. What arrhythmia do you have? I have bouts of AF and PSVT. I'll be taking thyroid meds and beta blockers till I die, but I'm happy I don't have cables in my heart (yet)
Everything is fine, I had SVT and then had the ablation (terrible but I'm all good now) and I'm going to take a beta blocker for the time being and maybe get a monitor in a week or so to see if there is still any arrhythmia going on. In the best case I'm completely cured, worst case they'll put a tiny defibrillator in me and I'll be able to do everything as I normally would. There's a chance you can get rid of it permanently with an ablation so I'd consider it, but I'm sure your doc will tell you if he thinks it's a valid option for you.
Yeah, The AF is pretty much gone since it was caused by some thyroid problem, but I still get occasional bouts of PSVT, even while on the beta blockers. But they taught me this technique a couple years ago- some maneuver where you try to exhale air with a closed mouth (don't recall the name), which stops it every time. I've been told an ablation is an option, but I'm ****ing scared of the procedure and the idea of having things in my heart:scaredas:
