I don't really train for boxing, more for general fitness.

However, just over 2 weeks ago when bench pressing I tweaked my left shoulder. I felt a slight bit of pain at the time, but it was definitely nothing major. I continued to train as normal but with slightly lighter weights and felt no real pain.

Fast forward a week and I was at home and the shoulder starting hurting a bit out of nowhere. It has been sore on and off ever since. It especially hurts at the front part of the left deltoid when I put both arms straight out in front of me and squeeze my shoulder blades. The pain also seems to be right in the middle of the shoulder. It also hurts when someone puts their hand on my hand and they push down, while I push up.

I can move the arm fine and hold it above my head etc though it is slightly weaker than usual.

I have been told it might be an inflamed tendon, and I have started using ibuprofen gel. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? It's incredibly frustrating as I've been training well. How long could I need to rest/speed up healing process?

Also, if I can't do upper body training for a while it gives me a good chance to focus on cardio and legs. I would like to lose around 7-10 pounds of fat while maintaining what muscle I do have. Any tips on how to do this if it is possible?

Hope somebody reads and I appreciate any advice.

No, but I get the occasional pain kinda down my forearm. Just a bit of a sharp pain, nothing unbearable.

Go and visit a Good Osteopath, sounds like muscles around the top vertebrate have tightened. An easy Fix.

Shoulder. I use to train a rugby team and shoulders were popping like pop corn. Ice ice ice after each time. And get ahold of a compression band. They allow you to work out and ice with compression. Our team physio supplied a bunch. I think he got them from here. www.kingbrand.com/Shoulder_Injury_Treatment.php?REF=Boris1011

Hope it helps, good luck to ya!

Stop bench pressing. You can do push ups and work your way to one arm pushups.

    You don't need bench.

If you got to do bench, do it with dumbells.

Don't do barbell bench. It is notorious for ****ing up your shoulders.

I have not seen this for myself because I still eat some grains, and man I pray that your injury heals itself, admittedly, somewhat selfishly because I am afraid it could happen to me, but have you looked at the Paleo diet?

This guy, Mark from Mark's Daily Apple claims to have beaten osteoarthritis with his diet.

Perhaps it could work for you. Good luck and God bless.

Your phobia of weights is starting to really scare me.Arthritis cannot be cured,it can just be managed to relieve the pain. And no i didnt do paleo diet.
Btw,to to thread starter, swiming is really good for joints. It really helps with shoulder proublems,or elbow etc etc.

I hurt my shoulder badly for the fist time in my life by benching using the damn barbell. Also until then, I always neglected to work out my rotator cuffs even though I knew that they were crucial to shoulder health. What I did was started with rotator cuff exercises after about 1 week using very light weights, laid off any other upperbody exercises for 5 weeks, ran like crazy, sparred using only the left, and when I got back into things, never ever messed with the barbell again. Strictly push ups, and db presses if I have to bench. If you haven't been doing any rc exercises I suggest you start as soon as the pain starts to subside. Start with maybe 2 lb dumbells. I do rc work now any time I work out shoulders, back or chest for just about 5 minutes. Good luck to ya.

Man, I'm not saying, take a look at the Paleo diet. Go to mark's daily apple and search for osteoarthritis. He claims that he's reversed it with his diet.

Also, you don't need to work out nearly as much.

I know this is a boxing forum, and believe me I've been there before where I was lifting weights three or two times a week, training boxing 3 times a week, and running 3-6 miles three times a week.

    That's insane.

You don't even need that much. I found that sprints, 2 days of boxing training, and not even out of control, and nothing but bodyweight excercises is plenty of stamina and you will improve your health dramatically.

Anway, good luck and God bless.

I'd wager that 90+% of this training section doesn't do any RC work, which is absolutely mental.

I've personally never had any shoulder injuries with the BB bench, but I train my RC a few times per week and I do probably 5 minutes of work before any pressing session to make sure my shoulders are good to go.

You cannot reverse arthritis,if he claims that he did,he never had it.
Firstly i want to say thanks for your wishing me luck and everything but i do know how to care for myself.I find weightlifting essential to my training.
