I been boxing for quite a few years, but just for fun. I got married last year, and my wife works out with me at the gym. We lift together, and she does very good on the weight lifting side of things. Amazingly though for a woman she's not all that athletic...She's never enjoyed running much, her balance and movement isn't great, most any cardio really except being a pretty good swimmer. She's been boxing with me for about a year (I only train her/ train with her and don't go to any boxing gyms anymore). I have a bag/ speedbag at my house, mits, gloves, body vest, etc. I usually box about 3 days a wk, but get her to 1-2 times. Here's what we do: Day 1) Mits Pratice combos (3 punch combos to 7 punch combos...Don't throw any less than 3 cuz I don't want to get her in the habit of throwing 1 at a time, and we always MOVE after throwing) Practice slipping under the hook, and hooking back Practice catching the jab, and jabbing back quickly Practice moving head side to side and countering Then we will spar with eachother a little bit. Basically she's on offense, and I just block, move around, and don't throw punches back Then she'll be on defense, and I'll put the mits on and work her. The other day is bagwork and practice more for power, and doing rounds on the heavy bag. So, I typically use the mitts more for movement/ speed/ sparring AND use the bagwork to do rounds, and work on power. I use to do JKD so we do that some as well...Elbow drills, Forearms, Knees, groin kicks, etc. I was just seeing if anybody had any other ideas of things to work her on? I got a pretty willing participant who is tough, but lacks a lot of athletism currently...Somethign that definitely needs to be improved. Any ideas would be great.
