pac has problem with JMM because he anticipates his moves, in essence he plays it too safe and tactical. If he came out like tyson or gamboa and wrecked house he would actually wreck marquez in 4-6 rnds very easily.

pac attacks agaisnt marquez have a rythym of some sort like he knows when they are going to stop before they begin its too predictable for marquez who is truly an ATG fighter and skillful opponent. Its like luke fighting yoda but this time the green ugly midget is marquez, he is just wise in the ways ...

Pac fought the wrong fight, but did enough to win. The pressure was on him to demonstrate the improvements. Marquez's new power shocked him, quite frankly. If Pac brought the fight to Marquez, he would have won definitively.

Roach said two things leading up to the fight that in my opinion led to his strategy.

1-"Marquez has been a little more aggressive, maybe because he's older or maybe so he could get the big fights, but I think that could be his downfall."

2-"We're going to counter-punch the counter-puncher and Nacho knows it and there's nothing he can do about it."

If you watch their second fight, the only times Pac really hurts Marquez is when Marquez gets overzealous and leaves himself open wide for a counter (the knockdown in round 3, the big overhand left in round 10.) They were expecting Marquez to try and go for the KO, to throw long strings of combinations, and they had faith in Pacquiao's improved ability to box and counter.

Not only did they underestimate the discipline and restrain from going all out Marquez showed over 12 (Ariza himself said they were expecting a different JMM), but Pacquiao seemed wary of coming in and starting his offense. My friend, an amateur boxer himself, commented that he didn't fear guys like Cotto or Margarito as they were new threads with unknown challenges that Pacquiao only needed confidence in himself to overcome, whereas with Marquez, Pacquiao new very very well how over-committing could cost him. Wrong strategy coupled with an unwillingness to engage took away Pacquiao's best shot (though to be honest, I was scared the seemingly appropriate counter-punching tactic might work based on the 2nd fight, but I myself also underestimated JMM's mental discipline.)

Pacquiao isn't exactly known for making wholesale adjustments before a fight. If anything, Marquez/Nacho will tweak some things and befuddle Pacman again...assuming, of course, that he's willing to go through another 15 week camp.

New power? What the **** are you talking about? Since when was Pacquiao afraid of anyone's power? It was the frequency of getting countered that he was scared of, which would not be solved by coming forward even more.

For those saying Pacquiao fought the wrong fight, while it has some truth to it, keep in mind the last two fights. Trying to go all out got his ass countered and cut. Trying to box safely found himself controlled and limited. Marquez was always one step ahead in either case.

Like I said, Marquez is a genius in the ring :deal

I still get pissed at the dumbass Pac supporters (Sunn) who said he fought like a *****. No he fought smart as hell and fought the way I'd tell him to fight and more

I wish all post fight interviews with Boxers where like this one, fantastic!

You know it does intrigue me as to why Pacquiao seemed as hesitant as he was to engage in this fight, and naturally I credit Marquez for this, for occupying Pacquiao mentally and using his actions early in the fight (countering with conviction and power) as a statement to Manny which read ... "Make any, ... ANY mistakes and I am cracking that jaw of yours amigo!"

    Marquez MADE Pacquiao hesitant.

Maybe Pacman was too confident the KO would come, or KD's, it's possible I suppose, and for the life of me I can't understand why Manny did not work the body! .... maybe Marquez made him hesitant there too (ie - if Pac threw body punches he felt he'd be more open to counters?)

I had Marquez winning, and despite what I think Pacquiao could have or should have done better I have to credit Marquez with making Manny fight his fight.

Probably cuz they are trying to stop Manny from having to rely purely on his physical gifts since he is getting older. But he just isn't a great technical boxer though he improved somewhat in that aspect. They also probably started drinking the kool aid about how much Manny improved technically.

Great Interview BTW. Thx for the translation Bogotazo

Ive seen Pac countering Marquez on that fight. pac baits juan to unleash his counters then he goes off with his own counter.:bbb To our surprise that Saturday night, pac connected too on those moments.

The other problem with pac was that he almost had like no idea on how to neutralize or adjust to juan's left upper-right straight combo. that right straight made "pac's hair fly like in a shampoo commercial". Why did roach and Manny planned for that kind of punch? Does manny and other southpaws a sucker for those type of punch? Damn!

Marquez's power increased. He himself has stated that he's never felt as good or as strong. He hired the second most shadowy figure in the Balco scandal and was then seen drinking a colored beverage. If it's normal practice for Marquez to drink anything but water, show me some other fights. Pac didn't mind jumping into fire in their previous fights and getting countered. But this time, after absorbing the punches of bigger and harder punchers, he was hesitant?

IMO Juan Manuel MArquez concentrated on improving his power while maintaining his speed that can cope up with Manny's speed. He said this on 24/7.
