First and foremost, you fight to finish. Wherever that is. That amateur boxing mind set is 100 percent bull****. A lot here in Australia anyway. There are some **** coaches and their system is all the same. They're one dimensional. Throw a combo, run away. Good luck doing that on the street if you need to defend yourself or in a longer fight. It's a poor strategy even for a 3 round amateur bout. Sure after you fire you move your head, block, pull, parry, step off to the side or slightly back whatever. But you need to have good offensive pressure. Coming forward slipping or mixing up forward and sideways steps and stalking. If you land some good shots, follow up. Keep going. Look to finish or inflict further damage. These brain dead coaches will have you looking like Joey Spence did against Tszyu. As Shawn Porter said you can't do that in that division. In any division. Jab, circling the outside of the ring. On the defensive. Do that against a puncher with brains you'll find yourself on the canvas. You'll waste energy. Mayweather was the best defensive fighter of all time but he still took centre of the ring at times. He could fight inside or outside and was comfortable on the ropes. He'd jab, land that right hand and Bob, get out the way whatever. He'd throw lead left hooks and overhand rights or chopping punches. But he was one of a kind. I've had **** trainers that changed my style. I had to learn the hard way that that point sparring **** doesn't work. Sooner or later you're going to have to get in there and get dirty anyway better to do it early than to throw and retreat like it's a point sparring match. I almost lost on the street because of this **** once. I got used to throwing with 16 Oz gloves which are huge. My jabs were just missing my opponent cos I was throwing like I was wearing 16 Oz gloves which would have covered the ever so slightly missing distance had they been on. You go straight in obviously with intelligence. Do not hesitate it's not a 3 min round you're fighting in. All this side ways, backwards moving is a bunch of bull****. The first thing you have to be good at as a fighter is being strong, being strong in the pocket, going toe to toe and holding your ground. That's the basic thing you have to do. It's the most important. If you can't do that, you won't win ****. Sooner or later you're going to have to fight and weather the storm plain and simple. So many boxing gyms have all fighters with the same style. It's a joke. You should have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal. I've heard **** about never moving backwards in a straight line which is more bs. If that's the case don't pull back then. Throw and move back diagonal amateur ****. Run into the corner and circle the ring along the ropes. Yeah sure.

Yes of course you use angles. But you're not going to throw and step off to the side 100 times in a row. On the flip side of that I've trained with many trainers who didn't implement no angles. It was come forward bull**** all the time. Which you can't do. It's the first thing you have to be able to do but not all the time. You have to mix it up. Tyson used angles in the 80's and constantly changed direction. Yet here in Australia with many coaches I trained, they weren't even doing this in 2020. Garbage. I had trainers teach me just hit the bag front on. Never use the side of it. At all. So never side step. Never angle change. Never roll underneath it and hook or check hook. Pathetic. You need to be able to do everything. But when it comes down to it, you have to be an offensive juggernaut. Punching and running will only get you so far. Fight to finish at all times. And this is just the small tip of the iceberg.

The street isn't a boxing match. You're not ticking up points on a score card. Yes you move around IF NEED BE. But your goal is to finish them fast. Throw a couple punches and retreat yeah I don't think so. Do that for 3 minutes so his mates can come and jump you. For people tgat don't know their surroundings they'll go right into another person or chair and fall over. You need to be fast and frenetic. Force the action. Be wary of the counter obviously. And of course this is a last resort option. But to be honest sometimes you have bo choice. You're literally fighting for your life.
