I live in VA, I drove into Manhattan for the Klitschko/Brock fight last year, plan on doing up in feb. for his match with Sultan. Let me tell you, driving in NYC was not fun at all. can anyone give advice or help on a better way into the city?
Take Amtrak to Penn station..go above ground..It'll be right in front of you..And check this out your 8 blocks from times Square 42nd street.. Lots of things to do...Check out the Largest Post Office in the world (8th Ave and 33rd street). ..next to that A Pink Building..Thats where I use to work my Magic...7th floor For some Pubs..Go to 7th Avenue..30th or 29th Street Mustang Sallys nice waitresses Mustang Harrys is next door and The Triple Crown Ale house right there too.. Good times
Train.....dont even bother taking your car in the city. Only unsuspecting tourist do that. No parking. Get a metrocard (for the trains and buses)...you'll be alot happier
I live in harrisburg, Pa. I take penn turnpike to philly - get off valley forge exit, take schukill expressway to walt witman bridge - get on 42 and go to Hamilton train station. Take 1 hour train right to Madison square. Take the train, do not bother driving your theoretical 6/7 hour drive will turn into 12 hours once you get to the city. Trust me, I drove there more than plenty. The train is the key.
Drive to New Brunswick (the first city in Jersey with tall buildings - where Rutgers is), park your car in a garage there, and take the Northeast corridor Amtrak train in from there. Saves you driving in the city, the train only costs like 10 bucks, and it saves the time of waiting for the tunnel as well. Another option is to get off at the last exit before the Lincoln Tunnel and take the ferry across from Weehawken, but if you're only spending a day or two in NYC and you don't need the car except to get there and back, the train is the much better option.
