Where do you do your runs, and is there really any difference if you run outdoors or if you run on a treadmill
Running on treadmills is as boring as watching paint dry. I'm pretty sure there's a muscle that running on a treadmill leaves out, but one of the more educated on here will have to explain further.
I run on treadmill, I do HIIT for 12 minutes 2-3 times a week, jogg 2 minutes sprint 1 minutes for 12 minutes, with some elevation I prefer running on a treadmill because it pushes me harder than when I used to run outdoor - the main reason is that you cannot "cheat" with the main parameters which are time, speed and elevation (since you input them), and you are bound to be disciplined. It is not possible to slack off by definition, because everything is pre-set I also do not think that running on treadmill is inferior to running outdoor in terms of cardio-vascular or muscular stimulation, I believe that the motion is exactly the same - the running motion - is the same outdoor and on a treadmill
If you work out a route and set a time limit I don't see how you could "cheat" outdoors. If anything having a set speed and incline is a bad thing, it's easy for your body to adjust to, plus the fact you're training for a sport which is never at a constant pace, so why would you train that way? Treadmill is by far easier compared to running outdoors where the terrain, incline, speed etc is constantly changing. Running outdoors you're propelling yourself forwards. Running on a treadmill the belt is moving backwards, there's no propelling forwards. How can you possibly say the mechanics are the same?
hello Virus, what I mean by "cheating" that I am more tempted to slow down while running outside, whereas on the treadmill screen I can monitor my speed constantly and precisely. Of course it is possible to monitor yourself running outside if you bring a stopwatch, but I think that the monitoring is more precise on a treadmill (speed, time, distance, elevation) I like running with elevation, I find it more challenging, where I live it is impossible to find a road with elevation, so thanks to the treadmill I can do something I would not be able to do otherwise In theory I would agree with you - doing the same thing over and over will bring diminishing returns, since the body will adapt to it. But beside running I also do weight training and I am gaining weight (muscle) As I gain weight running becomes more challenging, actually I observed that my cardio has decreased compared to a few months/years back. So even though I do similar exercises I still find them very challenging, even harder than before I think that whether the floor moves or you are moving does not affect the running mechanics, the motion is the same. I run on a treadmill for months, and after a while I was able to run outside again. I did not notice any atrophy or weakness in my legs muscle, but that's what I felt, I may be wrong!
I much prefer running outside, but the treadmill's always handy when i'm feeling lazy and just want a 10-15 minute jog or something
