Would Berbick's awkward style be enough to overcome Lyle power and strength?

Lyle would knock the **** out of Berbick. IMO He would'nt even get the chance to do that drunken waltz he did against Tyson. Awkward style or not he'd be unconscious.

Both of these men had a fair share of on and off nights. Each guy had a decent list of wins against respectable opponents, as well as some losses to fighters who renged anywhere from average to elite. Lyle was a good hitter, but not the power puncher that people make him out to be. A lot of his knckout's came from good counterpunching and nailing his opposition multiple times at the right moments. A skilled fighter but, definately not a knockout artist. Berbick had a nice combination of above average power to decent boxing ability. Although the Snipes and St. Gordon bouts were less than flattering performances, Trevor had some great nights against Thomas, Tate, Page, Bey, Green, Racette and Holmes. Lyle of course, proved his worth against Shavers, Ellis, Bonavena and even in his losing efforts to Foreman. If I were to pick these guys in their prime, I would probably choose a 1975 Lyle who fought Foreman vs a 1982 Berbick who beat page and had recently gone 15 with Holmes. My prediction would be a very close decision going to Trevor Berbick, although most would pick Lyle.

The concensus here seems to be, that Lyle would KO Berbick with ease.
I think a lot of people are forgetting that Trevor Berbick was only Ko'd twice in 62 pro fights. One time coming in only his 11th pro bout against a seasoned contender, and the other against a prime Mike Tyson. Outside of that, Trevor was a rather durable fighter who fought, beat, and or went the distance with a lot of class contenders/champions. While Lyle certainly had a punch, most of his best wins came via decision, or TKO. I can't predict Lyle by knockout in this one, and in fact have already stated that I'd go with Berbick to eek this one out.

Lyle has got to be favour here. He'd probably take Berbick out by the late rounds, or take the decision. :yep

I'd pick Lyle in this one, although I think it'd be a tough fight. People sell Berbick short for his tap-dancing routine against Tyson.

Lyle wasnt quite the monster he's made out to be, he had good power but, not awesome,Berbick was a strong guy himself, while not a hitter, and he had a very good chin.
I think he is in with a good chance of upsetting Lyle,on his good nights,[he was inconsistant] Berbick would give anyone trouble, imo.

Right on. Berbick is being sold short a bit here i think. He was the first one to beat Pinklon Thomas, who was on a long winning streak against many of the 80's top contenders. He was also very durable. In hindsight, it was a bit naive of him to think he could outslug Tyson, though.

This fight would go to a decision, i think.

:nono Misquoting to Jerry Quarry; I don't know;)

Actually I go against the grain here, Berbick on top form wins a close decision...6 rounds to 4 maybe.

One of the hardest punches I've ever seen was the final right hand Ron Lyle landed on the side of Earnie Shaver's head. When that man was in his prime, he was one mean ------!! I don't care how Berbick would fight him, he would get his lights put out. Lyle was a dangerous man.

Lyle, was taken the distance by most of the top rankers he fought, including,Quarry,Peralta twice,Bonavena,Ellis,Young twice, and Bugner
.He wasnt the devastating killer people paint him,imo
.Berbick was as durable as those mentioned,he was only kod by Mercado ,a big puncher, early in his career, and Tyson when he went out to slug with him.

Exactly. People just see the Tyson fight and say he has a glass jaw, Berbick was a durable fighter.

Your other point is right too, Lyle wasn't a dynamite one punch KO fighter like people think.

Yes, i can't believe the esteem Lyle is held in here. He's really not that good of a fighter. I think people rate him on his excellent losing effort to Foreman. Great fight, but i'm really not convinced that's exactly a Foreman Exhibit A given he was coming off the immediate loss to Ali which IMO hit him hard on multiple fronts. Apart from the freak loss to Mercado Berbick had a fine jaw and had no probs dealing with Holmes class and pressure over 15, where most succumbed. Berbick also took some whopper shots from Tyson before wilting and i see him as an excellent chance of taking the decision here.
