Trevor Berbick vs Ron Lyle

Once again I didn't say that. But Berbick only got stopped twice. Bugner 3 times.

Fine. But there's no evidence that Lyle would KO Berbick. Berbick was very durable and has taken shots from guys like Lyle. Mercado and Tyson certainly hit harder.
I think Lyle takes a decision.

 

please tell me what guys were like lyle.... ron lyle was harder puncher than any rival of berbick except tyson, mercado knocked him out in 1 round IN HIS PRIME , and bernardo had similar hitting power to lyle. JOE BUGNER WAS STOPED JUST BY EARNIE SHAVERS IN 2 ROUNDS, AND LATER HE WAS STOPED WHEN HE WAS AN ABSOLUTE SHOT, FRANK BRUNO WOULD KO BERBICK AS WELL.

 

John Tate, Greg Page, Hasim Rahman, even Holmes as a case for being equal a puncher of Lyle when he really loads up on his punches

Once again it's Lyle's time to shine in the light of revisionism. Reality tells us power apparently does not stop champions, so I'll go with a prime Berbick to squeak out a decision... Obviously a close fight but one that is going to the cards.

Ron showed good smarts in boxing Bugner and Ali. His resourcefulness and toughness were very much in evidence as he countered the lethal Shavers off the ropes following Earnie's round two knockdown of him.

Lyle certainly had the power necessary to put Trevor on the deck with a single shot, as Snipes proved. LeDoux was not an easy man to hurt. While Ron never dropped Scott, he did stagger him repeatedly, enough so to rally from that early knockdown to win. Ron could out slug sluggers and out box boxers. He was the only man to put down George Johnson for the count in the last ten years of Scrap Iron's career. Leroy Caldwell has said that Lyle's power was about the same as Foreman's.

Mobility, power, skill and straight punching are all clearly in Lyle's favor here. Berbick would need to be coming forward and swarming Ron with superior hustle to win a decision. I don't see it. I think Lyle would give Trevor an early taste of power like Snipes did, and induce Berbick into a defensive shell, where he would be coming forward and protectively low, as he did with Holmes. That would suit Ron fine, as he was perfectly comfortable boxing for a distance win. Caldwell (who drew with Berbick), Peralta, Middleton, Bugner and Ward were all competent boxers who Lyle beat over the limit.

 

ron lyle was a great puncher, underrated like the hell, for sure harder puncher than holmes,page or rahman lmao,but foreman was harder puncher, no doubt on it.
