Coming soon. WBA regular heavyweight title at stake, Bryan's second defense.

Prior to being claiming the vacant belt against Bermane Stiverne fourteen months ago, Bryan had been the interim champion for a 2½ year period on the shelf after defeating BJ Flores. Dubois, currently the WBA's mandatory #1 contender, ended up becoming the interim titlist directly after Bryan last June.

Don King was trending worldwide on Twitter, and the reason - that he, as Bryan's promoter, had beaten out Frank Warren, as Dubois', in the purse bid - was definitely not the one I (instantly, incorrectly) assumed. I mean, c'mon, the guy is a nonagenarian.

Awaiting official confirmation on the date but DKP is said to be targeting Juneteenth weekend, putting it directly opposite Jermall Charlo vs. Maciej Sulęcki on Showtime.

This will presumptively determine Oleksandr Usyk's next WBA ordered defense of the "Super" championship, pending resolution to developing events in his native Ukraine and their long-term impact on his availability.

One guy fought on close terms with a shot fat Bermane Stiverne, and one fought on close terms with prime Joe Joyce.

Now picture Joyce vs. Stiverne, in your mind. Now ask yourself whether there're different levels at play here. :sisi1

Dubois walks through the useless Bryan in a few rounds on his way to the utterly pointless regular "title"

I see it the same, and then if and when he gets his date with Usyk he gets shut completely out. I could see Usyk holding Dubois to a single digit connect percentage, honestly.

Dubious within 3 rounds, with the first being the most likely.

Thats if the fight happens, wouldn't hold by breath with King being involved

This matchup is collateral damage arising from the BS WBA titles.

But hey, it beats Charr vs. Oquendo for a world title - which is a timeline we very nearly lived in. :sisi1

Bryan does have talent. Good jab, decent size and power, technique and what I've seen a good enough chin. However the guy has absolutely no condition. Dude basically slouches around for most of the world and trains slightly for 3 weeks. It's not enough to be a top rated fighter.

Bryan could have some success with his jab against Dubois. Daniel still doesn't move his head enough and Joyce's jab gave him fits. But like I said Bryan is a fat **** and expect Dubois' aggression to be too much for Bryan and eventually Dubois stops him between the 7th-9th round.

Also it seems really unfair for Dubois to get and probably win a world title before Joyce does.

If Dubois is taken more than 6 rounds he should be ashamed of himself. In all honesty, he should walk right through Bryan in a few rounds.

I agree. Trevor Bryan is actually a good fighter. But he's been jerked around by the situation with the WBA and Don King. He's basically been used as a pawn and as a result has only had two fights in three years.

King somehow got Bryan's fight with B.J. Flores in 2018 named an interim WBA title fight just days prior to the bout. That came out of nowhere.

Then King spent two years basically working the WBA to get Charr out of the way. King had no interest in Charr. Meanwhile, Bryan sat on the bench for more than two years while multiple dates with Charr fell through.

When it looked like Charr and Bryan might fight, King put Stiverne on the undercard and then, at the last minute, didn't give Charr his tickets to get into the country and replaced Charr with Stiverne and got the Bryan fight made into a WBA 'regular' title fight.

Personally, I think King thought Stiverne could take Bryan. Stiverne has fought for King for years. But Bryan, though he was a facing a late replacement, took care of business. And I thought he looked pretty good doing so.

Then Bryan was out for another year as the WBA tried to overhaul their regular and interim belt situation. Bryan had to defend against someone within a year after his last fight or be stripped, and at the last minute they threw a no-name in there with him, Guidry.

Bryan was in bad shape but still managed to win.

Now, for the first time in five years, Bryan will be back in the ring in a matter of months. And, for the first time in years, he knows who he's facing and can actually prepare specifically for Dubois.

I think the 12-rounder with Guidry, while it was awful, may help him shake off the rust. Since he's starting at 260, maybe he'll get back down to the 230s, where he was before these long breaks.

Bryan has good boxing skills. He appears to have a good chin. He's an easy target to just outright dismiss (even by King). I wouldn't even be surprised to learn that King overbid just to try to get his hands on Dubois. He has far more upside, given his age and power.

But, despite the fact that everyone overlooks him, Trevor Bryan is one fight away from being FIRST in line to fight for THREE heavyweight titles when Usyk returns.

However King managed it, by hook or crook, he's gotten Bryan to the very front of the line.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if an in-shape Bryan batters Dubois. I want to like Dubois. I like punchers. But Trevor Bryan is big, strong, has fast hands.

I think Bryan will be a live underdog.
