Battle of thunder fisted Illinoisans, on the undercard of Lomachenko vs. Walters this coming Saturday. This is only an eight-rounder, so I'm not sure it will get airtime priority on HBO. It definitely is more of a TV-friendly affair than Ponomarev vs. Ortiz and Carcamo vs. Ruiz (both also scheduled for eight), and more competitive than either on paper. I suspect the younger and rangier McCumby will have too much for George and will grind him down to a late TKO, but this is a huge leap up in class for him. Can't see this one disappointing, neither guy is much into the idea of backward steps.
Hasn't george been getting stopped often. thought he was done when Truax destroyed him Has he turned his career around at all
I hope Don George wins. I voted for him. I really like that guy ever since I saw him vs Adonis and his fight vs Sean Monaghan was also good. Damn, when I remenber that fight, this guy is the definition of a warrior
He was drained in that fight. Said he couldn't even feel his feet in the locker room before the fight and knew right there thats he's f××××
I've never heard of McCumby, who looks more like an Abercrombie model on a boxing themed shoot than an actual fighter. His record looks like he's done well by knocking out the photographers of said shoot. George is shot. Like, bad, shot. Gutsy fighter, but I don't know what's left in the tank there. McCumby wins IMO.
He passes the eye test but hasn't faced anybody with the durability of Don, nor or the ability to hit back as hard. McCumby is fresher (hasn't been in any wars: George plenty) and far more technically sound based on his prior TV appearances (versus limited competition), so if George is to get the upset it will have to be will over skill and he might have to get off the canvas or fight through some facial damage and test out the kid's stamina.
