R.I.P alexis, a fantastic fighter and a top guy as well. Probably the most techincally perfect textbook fighter ever and an amazing all round puncher, i don't quite have number 1 as an all round fighter but he's not far short. God Bless Alexis, thoughts and prayers are with your family
very sad and shocking news great champion and even better human being i'm not sold on the suicide story, if true how ironic a man with such heart and guts would shoot himself in the heart RIP champ
I've always really respected Arguello, he was so good to watch and was a proper nice guy of the sport. It's so sad that such a great champion could resort to suicide, assuming it's true of course. RIP.
To me he epitomized what a boxer should be. The consummate warrior while always a gentleman. He didn't expect respect. He earned it and wouldn't have done it any other way. I hope he finally found the peace he'd been looking for.
Goodbye Alexis R.I.P. champ You were a gentleman in and out of the ring but you were also a fearless warrior. Its hard to believe youre gone I truly hope you have now found the peace you were looking for Thanks for Everything
"It's really an honor to be a boxer." Watching and listening to this man is truly humbling. R.I.P champ.
Alexis died far too young. He seemed so happy at the Hall of Fame events with Duran and Hagler. Great fighter and man. His fight with Pryor was unbelievable because of the heart he showed with Aaron. He will be remembered very well.
As a Nicaraguan, I'm so broken right now over the news. He was a hero to my country. He was a role model, a true champion, and a gentleman. Though he fought berfore my time, I've seen all his fights. Here is my favorite clip of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGIUQ1mcZ_U&feature=related Notice how he is so concerned for the other fighter. Almost never see that in boxing.
So sad. From what I understand he was a class-act all around. Hope you are at peace, Alexis. You will be remembered.
I saw an interview with him a while ago and he was asked about Pryor's black bottle, and he said something like: "The better man won. It doesn't matter about the black bottle". It would have been very easy for him to make an issue of the black bottle, cast doubt on Pryor, try to excuse himself for the defeat, but the man was such a class act that he was so gracious in defeat and respectful of his conqueror that he refused to deny him any credit. I'm sure that I and every other AA fan on here could wax lyrical about his best winning performances, but a special mention must be made of the heart and strength he displayed in that first Pryor fight. Alexis gave us one of the best fights of all-time, with his pride, skill and fire. RIP.
You only have to watch good world championship level guys like Chacon, Edwards & Limon vs each other to see they belonged there.... then watch them vs Alexis, that shows you just how good he really was in his prime. There will only ever be one Alexis Arguello & thats the truth.
