Yes, Young had a deeper resume than Leon Spinks but if you're going to mention such fighters as Dunn, Garcia and Roman, and consider close losses to Ocasio to be credit .... then you might as well give Leon props for beating such fighters as Evangelista, Rigetti and Mercado, and drawing with Animal Lopez and Scott LeDoux.
Because I don't rate Jimmy Young and can explain why, that makes me a ***** ? That's an extremely childish attitude, but one that is common to this board, I must admit.
i am with u bro ... jim young , way overrated , lost too many fights to nobodies , really . ye.. u could score tht for foreman , with a certain pair of eyes , imo. would entirely , depend on how u score aggression and generalship tho..
I've always been a big fan, but bottom line is Jimmy lacked desire. He didn't up his game and grab the brass ring in his two biggest fights, and allowed him to become discouraged when he didn't get the decision against Norton -- rather than upping his game a bit more to not leave it close enough to go either way (I thought Jimmy won, but I wouldn't call it robbery). And has there ever been a more chicken**** move than JY ducking his head through the ropes against Ali. How do you expect to win a championship that way?
Yeah, there's surgery for eye problems like that..what a load of ****..you have to be a Young hater to think that Foreman won that fight...how many grills do you own?:think
Young won those fights vs Ali and Norton..any nonobjective observer with a brain could see that...and how many times do you get screwed before you begin to say "whats the use"? Other fighters like Joey Archer, Carlos Zarate and Dave Tiberi to name a few...walked away after being screwed over. As for the ducking the head between the ropes..i suppose if Pernel Whitaker or Ali had done that, you'd be drooling over how brilliant their improvisitory defense genius was..it's no less a means of defense as nearly kneeling on the deck like Sweet Pea used to do...coming within a half inch of letting his knees hit the canvas..and taking a kd to avoid a punch. Sticking your head outside the ring to escape is a lousy move, embarrassingly so. It stinks to do it repeatedly. I don't see how you can argue otherwise.
:huh A fighter is supposed to stay inside the ring. I guess climbing completely out of the ring would be the ultimate "smart defensive move" in your eyes then.
I disagree. Foreman may not have been at his absolute best that night, but was pretty damn close to it. Out of all the heavyweights around in March 1977,only Muhammad Ali could have done,as well, what Jimmy Young did on that night in Puerto Rico. Some may mention Larry Holmes, but Holmes would n't have been ready at that point.
that's not the point and that's not what i was referring to. You go ahead and post in a Jimmy Young thread on how he would get beat by ****ing leon spinks and then say he's "overrated". Honestly? There's no need to even mention Spinks for no reason. So there you go. stop being a *****
I'm sorry, I didn't know the rule about no Leon Spinks in a Jimmy Young thread. There's no need for the insults and name-calling.
