Watched Rocky train 'n fight from the time he turned pro. Had you seen that ungainly little guy grow into the Hulk, round by round, you might feel differently, s

Just because Marciano had a style of fighting that you don't like...doesn't mean he wasn't a great fighter..he was...he wasn't in there to recite poetry...wave to the crowd...yell and scream...he was in there to kick your ass...and he did...49-0 43 KO's...he had no business being the champ...he was short...stocky...thick legs...short arms...started fighting at 24...25 years old...which is ancient...but he had the chin...heart...power...the will to win...pain meant nothing to Rocky....the only thing he was afraid of was losing...put The Rock in the ring with anyone...

Rocky, thanks for these clips.Oh my ! What a war between Marciano and the great Ezzard Charles. I consider myself lucky to have seen Marciano ko Carmine Vingo at MSG,and watch him train and spar from a few feet away.
I'll make one observation Rocky. In the history of heavyweight fighters, no one else could throw so many bombs for the entire 15 rounds, and be just as strong at the closing bell, than Marciano. NO ONE!. His stamina was
surreal, and his will to win at any cost,or pain, has never been equaled by a heavyweight...Marciano was one for the ages...:hi:

A great fighter, undoubtably. That punch that he nailed Jersey Joe with in their first fight looked absolutely devastating ! Whom did you tip,Burt,on the eve of that fight ?

Stevie, when I saw Marciano fight Carmine Vingo at MSG in 1949,he was just another prospect from out of town, whom most of us were skeptical of,as being a guy who would soon be "found out"once he fought in NY.In fact Carmine Vingo who we saw from NY on TV,ko some guys was also a great young puncher ,and was also bigger than Rocky. But that horrendous beating inflicted on Vingo sure convinced the crowd that Marciano was the real goods. Cheers S.

Vingo must have towered over Rocky. He is listed at 6'4" tall, while Marciano is 5'10 1/2"
