I know he was a great fighter, when did i say otherwise?

I know his style was effective and he was obviously he was a lot smarter than he appeared to the untrained eye, but his style wasnt very pleasing to the eye, just my opinion.

You're so right Burt.Could it be argued that there's never been a fitter heavyweight? Or any weight for that matter,he was a freak!

Yep ron,Marciano was a freak of nature . Stamina and iron-will galore. What fun Rocky would have had in England in the bare knuckle day's, going against the likes of a Tom Cribb ! Rocky was a larger Jake LaMotta with greater punching power and more sophistication...Cheers ron.

yep r,I was as close to him sparring as you are to your keyboard. I remember vividly the thudding sounds of his punches against his sparring partners. Rocky was training at Grossinger's Sullivan county ,NY.

he had everything going against him, his size, age, reach but he was an over-comer and a true freak if there was ever one in boxing, his ring smarts underrated, his subtle defense was excellent for his style, He had great recovery and an incredible heart and chin. Relentless stamina and tremendous power in either hand. He is the LB4LB great among the Heavyweights and up there with Louis and Ali as an elite heavyweight Champion. He brought class to boxing as a soft spoken gentlemen but an animal in the rind like John Garfield said "he turned into the hulk as the fight went on" AND as Burt said " he had KO power until the last rd."

A hypothetical fight with Rocky and Joe Frazier would have been something, would n't it ?

Muhammad Ali often said that out of all the previous champs,Rocky would have been the one who would have given him the most problems.

With all those Italians knocking about in Hollywood, i'm surprised there's never been a big budget movie on the rock.

A fight with Joe Frazier would have surely been a war. Oh my! I hate to pick a winner S, but as I have posted before ,during the reign of Marciano,
virtually EVERY writer who saw Dempsey at his best[pre 3 year layoff],
chose Dempsey to beat Marciano, because Dempsey, would have gotten under Marciano's missed swings, and anyone Dempsey could hit, he kod.
    Jack was a better TWO-handed puncher,and was murder in the trenches.Cheers S.

S, even if you don't hold Jack Dempsey in high regard, which of course is your right, to deny my assertion that by a vast majority, the writers who saw the peak Dempsey fight, and Marciano when he was titleholder,CHOSE Dempsey to beat Marciano at their bests. This is a FACT S, while your's is
your personal opinion. I saw and LOVED the Brockton Blockbuster, and I would not besmirch his legacy,by lying about the writers of 1954-55 ,
    choosing Dempsey over Rocky.:hi:
