I can't stand it when a fighter loses and people totally sell out. Cotto is a great fighter, fought a great fight, and got beaten due to a bad gameplan. He has beaten some great opposition in very dominant fashion, now all of a sudden, after Torres you knew... What rubbish mate. What about when he demolished Quintana, Malignaggi, destroyed Judah, beat Shane Mosley... These are all top level fighters. Obviously Marg was a bad style match up for him in hindsight. Cotto is still a great fighter though, and lost a very very competitive fight. Saying that hatton would "expose" cotto is just bull****. Makes it sound like you have only just started following the sport. Hatton and Margarito are COMPLETELY different fighters. Look at the massive size difference. If you think Hatton takes that sort of punishment, your an idiot. No questions about it. If you think huggy bear ricky is going to throw 130 punches in a round your also an idiot. Either way you're an idiot. Cheers. Out of curiosity, when Vince Phillips beat Kostya Tszyu, does that mean Kostya Tszyu got exposed? How do you think Kostya would have gone also against a guy like Marg, considering the trouble he had with pressure fighters.....
I understand you think Cotto could win a re-match, due to you being a fan, but Tony forced him to fight that way due to pressure mate. I dont think Cotto could have done much more. He was a long way off beatin him, yes it made it to the 11th, but it could have been over before then.
The fight was dead even coming into the 11th round. How is that not a close fight. Say Cotto fought a better gameplan, all he needed was another 2 rounds in the bag (not hard considering there were some VERY close rounds in the fight), survive the final one and the fight was his. It was a very close fight, regardless of who had the momentum at the very end. Marg will always be a very tough opponent. But cotto made a lot of mistakes, and he can definitely fight a much smarter fight. Imagine if he kept to the centre of the ring, and tied Marg up when he was tired. Used that jab and moved laterally more like he did in the earlier rounds. There is definitely a lot for him to improve on.
Close on points yes, but it was a major ****in beatdown in the end. So are you sayin he should fight like Huggy bear Hatton as you said he fights like? This content is protected
It wasn't a massive beatdown though, Cotto just had nothing left in the tank. Cotto even in the 10th round right until the last 30 seconds was still landing the cleaner punches, he just had nothing left to fight back with. Fighting like Hatton does sometimes is a total extreme. All i meant was when he is tired using a clinch to get some space. Look at how effective it is for guys like Klit. All he would need to do is throw it in there 1/4 as much as he does for it to be a great way to take a breather and control the pace more. He only really needs some little improvements to win, like i said it was a very close fight. Margarito wasn't landing on Cotto with big punches, it was accumulation and workrate. Cotto landed the harder cleaner punches all fight.
I agree with you MSTR. If Cotto fought a little smarter he could have won. Instead of absorbing all those body shots early on which later took its toll he should of clinched more often. This would have allowed him to slow the pace of the fight down, get his back off the ropes and establish some distance. He should of done enough to win each round or the majority of rounds then got on his bike and fight AM at distance to nullify his strengths.
This pic says it was This content is protected If Tony had lost, i would have said fair enough, the best man won. Your being a ***** about it. Man up MSTR.
He was cut, and he was beaten. But during the fight he was landing the cleaner punches and the harder punches as well. Marg beat him through accumulation. I gave him full credit, i don't know what you are even talking about. I can't do much more then that, i said he fought a great fight. All i am saying is that it was very close, and that if he fixes a few minor things he could take a rematch, although once again it would be a very hard fight. Which part of this do you have a problem with?
I have a problem with you sayin Cotto was landing the cleaner and harder punches. But we wont agree, **** happens, i hope Cotto comes back, but not too soon, and i do agree he needs a new trainer.
Cotto will beat Williams. Very bad style match up for Paul. He hates fighting on the inside, and Cotto is very effective at closing the distance. Cotto had trouble with Marg because he was simply better on the inside. Something Cotto has never had to face before in his whole career. He is very effective from this range. Marg will always have more trouble with Williams, based on styles alone. Just because A beat C and C beat B doesn't mean in boxing that A beats B. If you understand that at all... An example of this is Winky, Vargas and Mosley. Vargas beat Winky, Winky beat Shane, but did Shane get beaten by Vargas... No. Pac beat Barerra, Barerra beat Morales, but in their first fight did Morales beat Pac? Yes. With very top level guys styles play a big part.
The HBO commentary team were commenting on it all fight as well. Cotto was landing crisp hard punches, snapping the head back of Marg. Marg had far better punch resisitance though, to a freakish extent. Thats the biggest difference. Cotto's punch resistance is average. Plus his unreal stamina.
