I thought it was damn close with the knock down being the difference. Both guys did some good work, and deserve credit.
The commentary was terrible, but opposite of what OP is saying in my opinion. That fight was dead even at the stoppage. Lomo fans don't need to get defensive about that. He KO'd him, haha. It was a great win. But the scorecards at stoppage I felt were refreshingly accurate.
He looked great, same Loma as ever. He just has no power at 135, doesn't punch through the target, and wasn't significantly better than Linares. He's got #1 p4p skills, probably better skills than GGG or Crawford. They have more power, but I doubt they'll be as dominant since lightweight is a wasteland while middle and welter are fairly stacked and it's hard to look elite against monsters. Loma will probably look dominant head and shoulders above his competition for the next couple of years if Mikey doesn't beat him. With Linares down there's no one else around who could even challenge him. So p4p #1, sure why not? Calzaghe and Whitaker couldn't punch either.
I’m a HUGE Loma fan but it was a close fight before the stoppage. I even said to myself he needs to win 2 out of 3 going into the 10th. Major props to Linares, boy came to fight. Didn’t give Vasyl anything, made him work for everything. I came away very impressed with Jorge, and think Loma needs to stay at 135 for awhile. The straight right definitely hurt Loma, that was no flash knockdown. But that body shot was vicious, and maybe necessary. Great fight. I would like to see a rematch. Linares earned it IMO. Hopefully this made VL look human and maybe Mikey or Gervonta fall for it.
Yeah, that's what they call it when someone is dropped, gets back up and is deemed in no condition to continue.
